16일 법조계에 따르면, 서울남부지법 형사14단독(홍윤하 판사)은 특정범죄가중처벌 등에 관한 법률 위반(위험운전치사), 도로교통법위반(음주운전) 혐의로 재판에 넘겨진 30대 남성 유씨에게 징역 2년을 선고했다.
유씨는 앞서 지난해 11월 25일 오전 1시 30분쯤 서울 구로구의 한 도로에서 만취 상태로 역주행하던 중 맞은편 차량을 들이받은 혐의를 받는다. 피해자는 사고 직후 곧바로 병원으로 옮겨졌으나, 끝내 사망한 것으로 전해졌다.
유씨는 지난 2017년에도 음주운전으로 벌금형을 선고받은 것으로 밝혀졌다.
재판부는 “과거 벌금형의 처벌을 받은 전력에도 불구하고 또다시 술에 취한 상태에서 차량을 운전했고, 결국 피해자를 사망에 이르게 해 죄의 무게에 상응하는 엄중한 처벌이 불가피하다”고 양형 이유를 밝혔다.
