이번 간담회는 미얀마 군부쿠데타 발생이 3년이 넘은 지금, 5·18 기념재단의 초청으로 한국을 방문한 미얀마 민족통합정부(NUG) 외교부 장관과 기재부 장관의 요청으로 성사됐다. 간담회에는 이학영 국회의원(국회부의장 당선인)과 성공회대 박은홍 교수, 국경없는민주주의학교, 미얀마지지시민모임, 행동하는 미얀마청년연대도 함께했다.

이에 이용선 의원은 "미얀마 민주회복을 위한 연대와 협력이 22대 국회에서도 지속적으로 이어지도록 노력하겠다"고 밝혔다.
미얀마 민족통합정부(NUG) 두 장관은 지난 5월 18일 광주국립묘지에서 열린 5·18기념식에서도 내빈으로 초청되어 이재명 더불어민주당 당대표 · 이용선 국회의원과 반갑게 인사를 나눴다.
