(브레이크뉴슬인천 박상도 기자) 인천시가 10일부터 백령·대청 지질공원의 유네스코 세계지질공원 지정 추진에 발맞춰 ‘2024년 하반기 지질공원 해설사 교육’을 실시한다고 밝혔다.
인천시에 따르면, 백령·대청 지질공원은 지난 11월 29일 유네스코 세계지질공원 지정 신청서를 제출하며, 세계적 지질명소로 발돋움하기 위한 첫발을 내디뎠다.
이번 교육은 유네스코 세계지질공원 신청 이후 처음으로 진행되는 지질공원 해설사 자체 교육으로, 신규해설사 양성과 기존 해설사 역량 강화를 목표로 진행된다.
해설사들은 내년 유네스코 현장실사단이 방문했을 때 백령·대청 지역의 지질명소를 소개하게 된다.
현재 백령·대청 지질공원 해설사는 총 25명으로, 기존 해설사 21명(백령 12명, 대청 6명, 소청 3명)과 올해 신규 양성된 해설사 4명(백령 2명, 대청 1명, 소청 1명)이다.
교육은 1차(12월 10일~13일)로 기본 및 보수교육, 2차(12월 18일~20일)로 신규해설사의 야외 현장 교육이 진행된다.
교육 내용은 지질공원 제도, 백령·대청 지질유산, 역사·문화·생태, 해설기법 등으로 구성돼 해설사의 전문성을 강화할 예정이다.
백령·대청 지질공원 해설사는 지역 주민 중 지원자를 선발해 국립공원공단이 자격을 부여하며, 이들은 지질공원과 해설사로서 자부심을 바탕으로 활동하고 있다.
특히 해설사들은 2019년 이후 매년 지질공원 해설사 경연대회에서 우수한 성적을 거두며 역량을 인정받고 있으며, 탐방객들에게 양질의 해설과 관광·특산품 정보를 제공하며 방문객의 높은 만족도를 이끌어내고 있다.
앞으로는 지역 주민도 지질공원에 대한 자긍심을 가질 수 있도록 주민 대상 해설 프로그램을 확대할 계획이다.
