더불어민주당 허태정 전 대전시장이 대규모 인파가 몰리는 출판기념회를 열며 대전시장 재도전을 향한 시동을 본격적으로 걸었다.
13일 오후 대전컨벤션센터 제2전시관 1홀에서 열린 신간 ‘허태정의 결심’ 출판기념회에는 내빈과 당원, 시민 등 5000여 명의 지지자가 몰려 행사장은 사실상 ‘출정식’ 분위기로 달아올랐다.
이날 행사는 본행사 시작 후 1시간 40분가량 이어진 내빈 소개와 잇따른 축사로 대규모 세를 과시했다.
현장에선 “당내 경쟁자들을 상대로 초반부터 압도적인 기선제압에 나선 것”이라는 평가가 흘러나오며 허 전 시장의 정치적 존재감을 재확인하는 자리라는 분석이 제기됐다.

여권 주요 인사들의 축하 메시지도 쏟아졌다.
김민석 국무총리와 추미애 국회의원은 축전을 보내왔고, 정청래 더불어민주당 대표, 김병기 원내대표, 황명선·박지원 최고위원, 박찬대·김용 전 민주연구원 부원장 등은 영상 메시지를 통해 허 전 시장에게 응원의 뜻을 전했다.
허 전 시장은 인사말에서 자신을 “책을 낸 정치인”이 아닌 “대전을 사랑하는 한 시민”이라고 소개하며 몸을 낮췄다.

신간 ‘허태정의 결심’에는 ‘새로운 대전의 숨은 이야기’, ‘내 머릿속은 온통 대전’, ‘더 나은 내일을 위한 결심’ 등 허 전 시장의 정치 철학과 도시 비전을 담은 내용이 실렸다.
책 곳곳에는 민선 7기 대전시장 재임 당시 경험과 향후 대전의 방향을 둘러싼 고민이 녹아 있어 “재도전을 향한 메시지”라는 해석도 뒤따른다.
