나진이를 준비하면서 가장 먼저 신경 쓴 부분은 외적인 모습이었어요. 생계를 책임지고 살아가는 인물이다 보니 화려하게 꾸미기보다는 메이크업이나 헤어, 의상도 최대한 덜어내고 편안하고 현실적인 느낌이 나도록 준비했습니다. 인물의 상황이 자연스럽게 보이길 바랐던 것 같아요.

▲김서안은 어떤 계기로 배우의 꿈을 꾸게 됐나. 데뷔할 당시 배우로서 이루고 싶었던 목표가 있었는지.
어렸을 때 연극 심리치료를 접하게 된 것이 배우의 꿈을 꾸게 된 계기였어요. 다양한 감정을 표현하고 다른 사람의 삶을 살아보는 경험이 굉장히 신기하게 느껴졌어요. 그러면서 자연스럽게 연기라는 것에 대한 궁금증이 생겼고, 그 궁금증이 점점 재미로 이어졌던 것 같습니다.
데뷔할 당시의 목표도 거창한 것보다는 그 궁금증과 재미를 잘 풀어내는 배우가 되고 싶다는 마음이 가장 컸어요. 연기를 하면서 사람들의 마음을 이해하고 표현하는 과정이 좋았기 때문에 그 즐거움을 잃지 않고 계속 성장하고 싶었거든요. 그리고 개인적으로는 가족들과 주변 사람들에게 자랑스러운 배우가 되고 싶다는 꿈도 있었어요. 지금도 그 마음은 변하지 않은 것 같아요. 좋은 연기를 보여드리면서 저를 믿어주는 분들께 자랑스랍게 생각할 수 있는 배우가 되고 싶습니다.

When preparing for Na-jin, the first thing I focused on was her appearance. ▲ Prior to ‘Sold Out Today,’ she was active in roles such as Young-rang, a young gisaeng in a gisaeng house in ‘Lovers,’ and Geum-ok, the only daughter of a vegetable shop owner in Jongnam Market, in ‘Chief 1958.’ You have taken on roles ranging from historical dramas and period pieces to modern dramas. What do you consider to be Kim Seo-an's unique charm that allows you to handle various genres?
I think my charm lies in my naturalness, which is neither flashy nor exaggerated. No matter what role I take on, I strongly desire for the character to appear natural. That is why, whether it is a historical drama, a period piece, or a modern drama, I strive to blend seamlessly into the atmosphere and character of the work.
Although I am still in the learning process, I want to become an actor who naturally blends in at a certain moment, rather than standing out flashily. I believe my unique strength and charm lie in being able to show a different side of myself for each role while allowing viewers to focus on the character's story without any resistance.
▲ What do you consider most important when selecting or preparing for a project? Also, what genres of works and types of characters do you wish to take on new challenges in the future?
When selecting or preparing for a project, I think the most important thing is how well I can blend into the work and the character. I believe that no matter how attractive a role is, I must be able to live naturally within the story. So, why the character makes such a choice, and what kind of mindset they live with I tend to try to understand things by constantly asking questions about who I am.
The genre I would like to challenge myself with in the future is the thriller. Personally, I enjoy thriller works, and I think they have a charm that makes you constantly ask "Why?" as you follow the story. The process of chasing the characters' emotions and the truth behind the events one by one is incredibly intriguing. That is why I would like to play a character who leads the story while breathing together with the viewers in such a suspenseful work.
▲ What is the biggest concern for actress Kim Seo-an and for the person Kim Seo-an? And do you each have dreams and goals?
As actress Kim Seo-an, my biggest concern seems to be how I can act for a longer time, while staying healthy and happy. The reason I started acting was out of fun and curiosity, and I believe it is most important not to lose that feeling even now. Therefore, my goal is to become an actor who grows steadily by meeting good projects and good characters, and who acts happily for a long time.
As for the person Kim Seo-an, I think I worry the most about wanting to be a good person. Before being an actor, as a person, I want to be someone who is warm and sincere to those around me. Rather than grandiose goals, I think it is important to me to be someone whom the people around me feel comfortable with and can trust.
Ultimately, I don't think the dream of actress Kim Seo-an is much different from the dream of the person Kim Seo-an. To act happily and to live as a good person. My biggest goal is to uphold these two things for a long time.
▲ When is the happiest moment of your acting career?
I think the happiest moment is when I feel that I have finally accomplished what I have pondered and worked hard for. There are times when I spend a long time contemplating to understand a character while preparing for a project, but there are moments when emotions or scenes naturally unfold on set, and I learn, "This is what acting is," or "This is what good acting is." That is when I feel the greatest joy and sense of reward. Although I am still in the process of learning, I think I am happiest when I realize new things and feel that I am growing through acting.
▲ Lastly, if you were to say a word to yourself as Kim Seo-an today?
“Let’s act happily!”
There are difficult and sad moments, and days when I doubt myself, but I hope I never forget the reason why I first came to love acting. And I hope you don't forget that if you persevere and keep moving forward, just as you have until now, a day when you can smile will eventually come. So, to my current self, I want to tell myself to act happily. Let's not forget that even if there are difficult moments, we will surely be able to smile at the end of it all, and let's move forward.
