청와대가 15일(현지시간) "이재명 대통령이 레오 14세 교황에게 내년 방한을 초청했다"고 전했다.
유럽 순방 두 번째 방문국 이탈리아에 머물고 있는 이 대통령은 이날 바티칸 교황청 사도궁을 방문해 레오 14세 교황·피에트로 파롤린 국무원장과 면담했다.
위성락 국가안보실장은 이날 이탈리아 로마 한국 프레스센터 브리핑에서 레오 14세 교황·파롤린 국무원장 면담 관련해 "이 대통령은 어제, 오늘 교황청을 공식 방문했다”며 이같이 전했다.
그러면서 "오늘 레오 14세 교황과 단독 면담을 갖고, 파롤린 국무원장과 면담했다”며 “교황께 한반도 평화 정책에 대한 국민 염원·정부 구상을 말씀 드리고, 교황청의 한반도 평화·화해를 위한 변함 없는 지지·관심을 재확인했다”고 밝혔다.
또 “이 대통령·교황은 '2027 서울 세계 청년대회'의 성공적 개최를 위해 긴밀히 협력해 나가기로 했다”며 “이 대통령은 레오 14세 교황 방한을 정중히 초청했다”고 덧붙였다.
