6.3 지방선거가 끝나기 무섭게 여권 내부에서 기이한 권력 투쟁이 벌어지고 있다. 이재명 대통령이 정청래 민주당 지도부를 향해 연일 직격을 날리는 모습은 목불인견이다.
해외 순방 배웅길에서 당 지도부를 노골적으로 배제하고 사실상 당권 경쟁자인 김민석 총리를 앞세우는 관례 파괴를 선보이더니, 순방 중에는 이례적으로 화상 수석비서관·보좌관 회의를 소집해 “여당은 책임의 언어를 써야 한다”며 사실상 정청래 지도부를 저격했다.
진영을 떠난 국민 통합과 여야 협치를 강조하는 대통령의 겉모습은 자못 엄숙하기까지 하다.
참으로 뻔뻔하고 정직하지 못한 비겁한 정치다.
정청래 체제가 보여준 헌정사 초유의 일방적 폭주와 국회의 일당 독점적 운영의 결과물을 과연 정 대표 혼자서 독식해 왔단 말인가. 그 폭주의 가장 큰 수혜자는 다름 아닌 이재명 대통령 자신이었다.
그동안 대통령은 말로만 협치와 양보를 외치며 ‘굿캅(Good Cop)’의 이미지를 독점했고, 민주당은 폭주를 통해 대통령의 ‘방탄장치’이자 ‘채찍’이 되어 ‘배드캅(Bad Cop)’ 역할을 자임했다. 이 정교한 위선 극본 덕분에 대통령은 독재적 국정운영 속에서도 국민적 착시를 유도하며 60%대의 국정 지지율을 유지할 수 있었다.
집권 초기 국무회의에서 "입법 속도가 늦어 힘들다"며 거대 민주당의 다수당 폭주를 대놓고 독려했던 이가 누구였는지 국민은 또렷이 기억하고 있다.
더욱 심각한 것은 지방선거 결과를 아전인수로 해석하며 당무에 개입하는 대통령의 오만함이다.
이번 6.3 지방선거는 ‘민주당의 승리’이자 ‘이재명 대통령의 패배’다. 특히 친명계 명픽후보들이 전멸하다시피 한 선거 결과가 이를 증명한다. 그럼에도 이를 빙자해 정청래 지도부를 강제로 찍어내려는 행태는 과거 윤석열 정권 시절 안철수, 나경원 의원을 사정없이 찍어내던 권력 중독자들의 데자뷔를 보듯 소름이 돋는다. 오죽하면 민주당 대변인이 이를 비판조로 언급했다가 사임하는 사태까지 벌어졌겠는가. 사슴을 말이라 우기는 ‘지록위마(指鹿爲馬)’이자, 21세기 AI 시대에 벌어지는 염치없는 희귀 코미디다.
진정으로 ‘책임의 언어’를 다하고 싶다면, 열흘이 넘도록 이어지는 참정권 침해와 선관위 부실 관리 사태부터 돌아보라. 투표용지 부족 사태를 비롯해 고질적인 선거 관리 폐해를 정략과 정실인사로 방조해 온 책임이 누구에게 있는가. 사태가 발생한 지 열흘이 지나도록 단 한 마디 사과도 없이, 마치 자신들과는 무관한 일인 양 유체이탈 화법으로 일관하는 정부·여당이 ‘책임’을 운운하는 것 자체가 민주주의에 대한 모욕이다.
지금 이재명 대통령이 해야 할 일은 선거 결과를 왜곡해 눈엣가시 같은 지도부를 찍어내는 얄팍한 정략이 아니다. 그동안 저지른 의회 폭주와 독선적 국정운영에 대해 국민 앞에 깊이 사죄하고, 국정 기조의 ‘대전환’을 선언하는 것이 먼저다. 아울러 이번 선거 부실 사태 역시 여야가 면피용으로 주고받는 정쟁형 ‘물타기 국정조사’로 적당히 덮으려 해선 안 된다.
정권의 입김이 닿지 않는 ‘야당 추천 특검’을 즉각 도입하여 성역 없는 진상 규명과 책임 소제를 명백히 밝히고, 근본적인 재발 방지 대책을 강구해야 한다. ‘책임과 통합’은 비주류와 정적을 숙청하기 위한 도구가 아니다. 대통령은 남을 탓하기 전에 자신과 현실부터 돌아보라. 국민은 더 이상 그 위선에 속지 않는다. 추락하는 지지율이 말해 주고 있다.

Furthermore, this election scandal must not be covered up superficially through a politically motivated "watering-down parliamentary investigation" used by the ruling and opposition parties merely to evade responsibility.
A "special prosecutor recommended by the opposition party," free from the influence of the administration, must be immediately introduced to uncover the truth without any sacred cows, clearly identify those responsible, and devise fundamental measures to prevent recurrence.
