대구섬유박물관(관장 박미연)은 오는 6월 23일부터 8월 17일까지 기획전시실에서 특별전 ‘손끝으로 이어진 시간: 엄마의 기록, 딸의 기억’을 개최한다고 밝혔다.
이번 전시는 평안남도 진남포 출신 임영희(1922~2015) 씨가 남긴 일기와 바느질 작품, 그리고 이를 기억하는 딸들의 이야기를 중심으로 구성됐다. 해방과 한국전쟁, 산업화 시대를 거치며 기록한 70여 년의 일기와 생활 유물들을 통해 한 개인의 삶이 시대의 역사로 확장되는 과정을 보여준다.
전시의 기반은 국가기록원에 보존된 임영희 씨의 일기와 딸 박경자 씨가 대구섬유박물관에 기증한 의류 및 바느질 자료들이다. 관람객들은 손수 제작한 의복과 생활용품, 사진, 기록물 등을 통해 한 어머니가 살아온 시간을 만나볼 수 있다.
전시는 총 6개 주제로 구성된다. ‘치유의 일기, 그리고 바느질’을 시작으로 ‘어머니의 시간’, ‘어머니의 꿈, 거실의 디자이너’, ‘두 개의 시선, 마주 보는 기억’, ‘오래된 미래: 다시 살아난 것들’, ‘계속되는 일상, 이어지는 기억’ 순으로 이어진다.
특히 전시는 일기와 바느질을 단순한 생활 기록이 아닌 삶을 견디게 한 치유와 사랑의 언어로 해석한다. 실향민으로 살아야 했던 임영희 씨가 일기를 통해 마음을 기록하고, 바느질을 통해 가족을 돌보며 이어온 시간을 다양한 유물과 자료를 통해 조명한다.
또한 가족들의 옷을 직접 만들었던 어머니의 손길 속에서 드러나는 창의성과 미적 감각에도 주목한다. 자녀들이 기억하는 ‘우리 집 패션디자이너’의 모습을 통해 평범한 일상 속에 숨겨진 예술성과 삶의 품격을 보여줄 예정이다.
전시에서는 한 벌의 옷에 담긴 어머니와 딸의 서로 다른 기억도 만나볼 수 있다. 같은 옷을 바라보는 두 세대의 시선을 통해 가족의 추억과 세월의 의미를 되새길 수 있도록 구성했다.
이와 함께 자투리 천과 헌 옷을 재활용해 새로운 물건으로 탄생시킨 생활용품도 전시된다. 물건을 오래 사용하고 다시 살려 쓰던 생활방식은 오늘날 환경과 지속가능성을 고민하는 사회에 의미 있는 메시지를 전할 것으로 기대된다.
이번 특별전은 문화체육관광부가 지원하고 한국박물관협회가 주관하는 ‘2026 공·사립·대학 박물관 K-뮤지엄 지역 순회 전시 및 투어 지원 사업’에 선정되며 공공적 가치를 인정받았다.
대구섬유박물관 전시 종료 후에는 오는 9월 1일부터 30일까지 경북 청도군 이서면 ‘갤러리 이서’에서 순회전이 이어질 예정이다.
전시 연계 교육 프로그램도 마련된다. ‘시간을 잇는 바느질, 기억을 수놓다’를 주제로 진행되는 체험 교육은 청소년과 성인을 대상으로 운영되며, 참가자들이 바느질과 기록을 통해 소중한 기억을 표현해보는 시간을 갖는다.
이 밖에도 대구와 청도의 산업·문화유산을 둘러보는 ‘K-뮤지엄 지역 순회 투어’ 프로그램과 토크콘서트가 함께 진행될 예정으로, 관람객들에게 지역 문화의 가치를 새롭게 체험하는 기회를 제공할 전망이다.

The Daegu Textile Museum presents a special exhibition that looks back on modern history through the records contained in a woman’s life and the memories of her family.
The Daegu Textile Museum (Director Park Mi-yeon) announced that it will hold the special exhibition ‘Time Connected by Fingertips: Mother’s Records, Daughter’s Memories’ in the Special Exhibition Hall from June 23 to August 17.
This exhibition is organized around the diaries and sewing works left by Lim Young-hee (1922–2015), a native of Jinampho, South Pyongan Province, as well as the stories of her daughters who remember her. Through diaries and daily life artifacts spanning over 70 years—recorded through the Liberation, the Korean War, and the era of industrialization—the exhibition demonstrates the process by which an individual’s life expands into the history of the times.
The foundation of the exhibition is Lim Young-hee’s diaries preserved at the National Archives of Korea, as well as clothing and sewing materials donated to the Daegu Textile Museum by her daughter, Park Kyung-ja. Visitors can encounter the life of a mother through handmade clothing, household items, photographs, and archival materials.
The exhibition is organized into a total of six themes. It begins with "Diary of Healing, and Sewing," followed by "Mother's Time," "Mother's Dream, Designer of the Living Room," "Two Perspectives, Facing Memories," "Old Future: Things Revived," and "Continuing Daily Life, Connecting Memories."
In particular, the exhibition interprets diaries and sewing not merely as records of daily life, but as languages of healing and love that enabled her to endure life. Through various artifacts and materials, it sheds light on the time spent by Ms. Im Young-hee, who lived as a displaced person, recording her feelings in her diary and caring for her family through sewing.
It also draws attention to the creativity and aesthetic sense revealed in the hands of a mother who personally made clothes for her family. Through the image of "Our Family Fashion Designer" remembered by her children, the exhibition aims to showcase the artistry and dignity of life hidden within ordinary daily routines.
The exhibition also allows visitors to encounter the contrasting memories of a mother and daughter contained within a single garment. The exhibition is designed to allow visitors to reflect on family memories and the meaning of time through the perspectives of two generations looking at the same clothes.
In addition, household items created by recycling fabric scraps and old clothes into new products are on display. This lifestyle of using objects for a long time and reviving them is expected to convey a meaningful message to a society concerned with the environment and sustainability today.
This special exhibition has been recognized for its public value after being selected for the "2026 K-Museum Regional Touring Exhibition and Tour Support Project for Public, Private, and University Museums," supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korean Museum Association.
Following the conclusion of the exhibition at the Daegu Textile Museum, a touring exhibition is scheduled to continue at "Gallery Iseo" in Iseo-myeon, Cheongdo-gun, Gyeongbuk, from September 1 to 30.
Educational programs linked to the exhibition are also being prepared. The hands-on workshop, themed "Sewing to Connect Time, Embroidering Memories," is open to youth and adults and offers participants the opportunity to express their cherished memories through sewing and documentation.
In addition, a ‘K-Museum Regional Tour’ program exploring the industrial and cultural heritage of Daegu and Cheongdo, along with a talk concert, is scheduled to take place, which is expected to provide visitors with a new opportunity to experience the value of local culture.
