Representative Kim Wi-sang of the National Assembly Environment and Labor Committee hosted a forum titled "Paradigm Shift in Industrial Safety and Policy Tasks through the Utilization of Advanced Technologies such as AI" at the National Assembly Members' Office Building on the 23rd.

The event focused on discussing measures to prevent industrial accidents based on artificial intelligence (AI) and big data.

A large number of officials from academia, industry, labor, and the government attended the forum to share their views on industrial accident prevention strategies utilizing advanced technologies and policy support tasks.

Professor Seo Yong-yoon, who delivered the opening presentation, emphasized that the introduction of AI into the field of industrial safety should be carried out gradually, taking into account both economic feasibility and effectiveness. Professor Seo explained, "It is desirable to prioritize the application of technology to high-risk sectors," adding, "Rather than changing all processes at once, phased application tailored to the specific characteristics of the site is necessary."

Following this, Professor Kim Ho-rim highlighted the importance of securing and utilizing on-site safety data. Professor Kim suggested that "the accumulation of safety data and the opening of anonymized databases are urgent," and proposed that "the government must take a more active role in building software and data infrastructure."

During the discussion, opinions were raised that to establish an AI-based industrial safety system, the difficulties in securing on-site data must be overcome, and a data utilization system based on the protection of personal information must be established. Additionally, discussions covered the development of algorithm guidelines involving labor, management, and government, support for data centers and the software industry, and customized support measures for small businesses.

Yong Yun-seo, a government representative in the discussion, stated, "We will pursue a user-centered redesign of projects by actively reflecting the voices from the field at small businesses."

Attendees unanimously agreed that for industrial safety innovation utilizing AI and big data, efforts must go beyond mere technology development and include the simultaneous improvement of relevant regulations, the establishment of technical standards, and the implementation of pilot projects.

Representative Kim Wi-sang emphasized, "We can no longer prevent industrial accidents by relying solely on regulations and post-accident management," adding, "It is necessary to transition to a preemptive prevention system that detects and blocks risks in real-time using AI and data." He added, "We will actively engage in legislation, institutional improvements, and pilot projects to ensure that advanced technology becomes a practical means of protecting safety in industrial workplaces."
