대구섬유박물관은 오는 8월 17일까지 특별전 '손끝으로 이어진 시간: 엄마의 기록, 딸의 기억'을 개최한다고 밝혔다. 이번 전시는 평생 가족을 위해 의복을 만들고 일상을 기록해 온 임영희 여사(1922~2015)의 유품을 중심으로 구성됐다.
평안남도 진남포 출신인 임영희 여사는 경성여자사범학교 1회 졸업생으로, 젊은 시절 패션디자이너를 꿈꿨지만 22세에 결혼한 이후 자신의 꿈을 뒤로한 채 가족을 돌보며 삶을 이어갔다.
전시는 대한민국 근대 복식 전문 박물관인 경운박물관의 박경자 부관장이 어머니인 임영희 여사를 기리기 위해 생전 직접 제작한 의복과 바느질 자료를 대구섬유박물관에 기증하면서 마련됐다.
전시장에서는 임 여사가 가족을 위해 손수 만든 근현대 의복은 물론 1946년부터 평생 작성한 일기와 가계부도 함께 공개된다. 일기에는 평범한 일상뿐 아니라 광복과 한국전쟁, 남북 분단 등 시대적 격변 속에서 살아온 개인의 삶이 고스란히 담겨 있다.
이 기록물은 한 여성의 생애를 넘어 근현대 사회상을 보여주는 중요한 사료로 인정받아 현재 국가기록원에서 소장하고 있다.
이번 특별전에는 일기장과 가계부 80점을 비롯해 직접 제작한 의복 49점, 생활 소품 189점 등 모두 318점의 자료가 전시된다. 특히 당시 열악한 생활 여건 속에서도 정교하게 완성된 의복들은 뛰어난 재봉 기술과 감각을 보여주며, 헌 옷과 자투리 천을 활용한 바느질에서는 가족을 향한 애정과 생활의 지혜를 엿볼 수 있다.
박물관은 전시와 연계한 체험 프로그램도 운영한다. 전시 기간 동안 청소년과 성인을 대상으로 '시간을 잇는 바느질, 기억을 수놓다'를 주제로 바느질 체험을 진행하며, 참가 신청은 대구섬유박물관 홈페이지에서 접수할 수 있다.
한편 임영희 여사의 남동생인 고(故) 임학권 전 누가의원 원장은 대구에서 평생 의료봉사 활동을 이어온 인물로, 병원 건물과 사택 등 전 재산을 천주교 대구대교구에 기증해 지역사회에 큰 울림을 남긴 바 있다.

The Daegu Textile Museum announced that it will hold the special exhibition 'Time Connected by Fingertips: Mother's Records, Daughter's Memories' until August 17. This exhibition is organized around the personal belongings of Mrs. Im Young-hee (1922–2015), who spent her life making clothes for her family and recording her daily life.
Born in Jinampho, South Pyongan Province, Mrs. Im Young-hee was a member of the first graduating class of Gyeongseong Women's Normal School. Although she dreamed of becoming a fashion designer in her youth, after marrying at the age of 22, she put her dreams aside to continue her life caring for her family.
The exhibition was organized after Park Kyung-ja, Deputy Director of the Kyungwoon Museum—a museum specializing in modern Korean costume—donated clothing and sewing materials personally crafted by her mother, Mrs. Im Young-hee, to the Daegu Textile Museum to honor her mother.
The exhibition displays not only modern and contemporary clothing handmade by Mrs. Im for her family but also her diaries and household ledgers, which she kept throughout her life starting in 1946. The diaries vividly capture not only her ordinary daily life but also her personal existence amidst the turbulent times of the era, including the Liberation, the Korean War, and the division of the Korean Peninsula.
Recognized as important historical materials that reveal the social landscape of the modern and contemporary era beyond just a woman's life, these records are currently held by the National Archives of Korea.
This special exhibition features a total of 318 items, including 80 diaries and ledgers, 49 pieces of clothing she personally crafted, and 189 household items. In particular, the garments, meticulously crafted despite the poor living conditions of the time, demonstrate exceptional sewing skills and artistic sensibility, while the sewing utilizing used clothes and scraps reveals affection for family and practical wisdom.
The museum also operates hands-on programs linked to the exhibition. During the exhibition period, a sewing workshop titled "Sewing to Connect Time, Embroidering Memories" will be held for youths and adults; applications can be submitted via the Daegu Textile Museum website.
Meanwhile, the late Dr. Im Hak-kwon, former director of Luke Clinic and younger brother of Mrs. Im Young-hee, was a figure who dedicated his life to medical volunteer work in Daegu. He left a profound impact on the local community by donating his entire estate, including the hospital building and residence, to the Catholic Archdiocese of Daegu.
