이재명 대통령이 7일(현지시간) 나토(NATO·북대서양조약기구) 사무총장·인도·태평양 파트너국(IP4) 대표들이 참석한 소인수 회담에서 "안보 협력은 신뢰할 수 있는 방산 협력에서부터 시작"이라고 했다.
청와대는 이날 이 대통령이 튀르키예 나토 정상회의 계기로 앙카라 컨벤션센터에서 열린 마르크 뤼터 나토 사무총장·일본·뉴질랜드·호주 대표들과 IP4 소인수 회담에 참석해 이같이 말했다고 전했다.
이 대통령은 "뤼터 사무총장 리더십 아래 나토 동맹국들이 방위력 증강을 위해 노력하고 있다"며 "전 세계 군사력 밀집도가 가장 높은 곳이 한반도로 충돌 가능성이 상존해 국방 투자·방산 개발 필요성이 높았던 게 한국 방위·방산 역량 근간이 됐다"고 했다.
그러면서 "나토와의 표준화 강화·방산 공급망 구축 등을 통해 방산 파트너십을 더욱 공고히 해나가겠다"며 "정부 간 협력뿐 아닌 방산기업 간 협력도 중요하다"고 했다.
또 우크라이나 전쟁 관련해 "유럽 불안정이 동북아로 전이돼선 안 된다"며 "전쟁 종결 과정서 불법 행위가 정당화돼도 안 되며 우크라이나 전쟁이 조기 종결되고 평화체제가 수립되길 바란다"고 덧붙였다.
이 자리에서 참석자들은 복합적 국제질서 변화 속 나토·인도·태평양 파트너국처럼 가치를 공유하는 국가 간 협력이 중요하다는 것에 공감했다.
