‘행복한 모든 일이 찾아온다’는 소망을 담아 명명된 다온숲은 지난 2022년 산림청의 도시바람길숲 조성을 계기로 첫발을 내디뎠다. 총면적 12.4헥타르(ha)에 달하는 광활한 부지 위에 잔디광장인 하늘마당, 억새풀이 우거진 바람언덕, 소나무 군락지, 그라스원 등 테마별 녹지 공간을 유기적으로 배치해 사계절 내내 풍성한 볼거리를 제공한다.
특히 여름철 다온숲의 백미는 단연 수국원이다. 조성 초기부터 지속적으로 규모를 키워온 구미시는 올해에만 5천여 본을 추가로 심었다. 현재 이곳에는 올썸머뷰티, 엔들레쓰썸mer, 핌퍼넬을 비롯한 42종, 총 3만 4천여 본의 수국이 만개해 장관을 이룬다. 품종마다 고유한 색감 및 개화 시기를 지니고 있어 초여름부터 늦여름까지 끊임없이 변화하는 꽃의 향연을 감상할 수 있다. 명실상부한 경북 지역 최대 규모의 수국 군락지로 입소문이 나면서, 최근 SNS상에서는 인생 사진을 남기려는 이들의 필수 방문 코스로 자리 잡았다.
