지방소멸과 저출생 위기가 국가적 난제로 부상한 가운데, 대전 동구가 유동 인구가 밀집한 교통 허브에서 주민들과 직접 만나 인구 문제의 심각성을 공유하고 해법을 모색하는 실천형 캠페인을 전개했다.
동구청은 지난 11일 대전복합터미널 일원에서 ‘제15회 인구의 날’을 기념해 인구정책 홍보 캠페인을 성황리에 개최했다고 13일 밝혔다. 인구의 날은 지난 1987년 유엔개발계획(UNDP)이 세계 인구 50억 명 돌파를 기념하고 인구문제에 대한 사회적 관심을 높이기 위해 제정한 날로, 우리나라는 2012년부터 매년 7월 11일을 법정기념일로 지정해 운영하고 있다.
이날 캠페인 현장에는 황인호 동구청장을 비롯해 한자녀더갖기운동연합 동구지부 회원과 일반 시민 등 500여 명이 대거 참여했다. 참석자들은 저출생과 인구감소 문제의 심각성을 함께 인식하고, 지속 가능한 지역사회를 만들기 위한 실천 방안을 공유했다.
구는 시민들의 접근성을 높이기 위해 정책 홍보를 비롯해 기념 포토존, '동구에게 바라는 한마디' 희망나무 등 다채로운 참여형 프로그램을 가동했다. 특히 대전의 마스코트를 활용해 제작한 꿈돌이 부채와 핸드타월 500여 개를 현장에서 배부하며 터미널을 이용하는 시민들의 자발적인 관심과 참여를 이끌어냈다.
무엇보다 주민들이 직접 동구의 미래를 설계하는 소통의 장이 눈길을 끌었다. 현장에 참여한 주민들은 희망나무에 직접 메시지를 남기며 아이 키우기 좋은 보육 환경 조성, 청년층 정착 지원 확대, 생활 정주 여건 개선 등 동구의 발전 방향에 대한 생생한 의견을 쏟아냈다.
