(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 인천 영종구가 최근 영종구청 회의실에서 영종구청, 경제자유구역청, 한국토지주택공사(LH), 인천도시공사(iH), 인천국제공항공사, 한국자산관리공사, 해양수산청의 관계자 등이 참석한 가운데 ‘방치폐기물 신속 정비를 위한 실무협의’를 개최했다고 밝혔다.
종종구에 따르면, 이번 실무협의는 “출범 초기 첫 4년이 영종의 미래 40년을 결정할 것”이라며 방치폐기물 정비에 대한 강력한 실행력을 예고했던 손화정 구청장의 의지가 적극 반영된 적극 행정의 일환이다.
실제로 영종구는 공항, 경제자유구역, 택지개발지구 등이 혼재돼 있어 기관별 관리 구역에 따른 행정 사각지대가 발생하기 쉬운 지역적 특성이 있다.
이에 영종구는 관계기관들과 ‘상설협의체’를 구성하는 등의 노력을 통해 관리 주체 다원화로 발생한 행정 사각지대를 해소하고, 방치폐기물 문제를 근본적으로 해결해 나가겠다는 방침이다.
이와 관련해 이번 실무협의에서는 미단시티 권역 8개소, 하늘도시 권역 17개소, 운서 권역 11개소, 용유 권역 3개소 등 관내 39개소의 방치폐기물(2026년 7월 1일 기준)을 신속히 처리하기 위한 촘촘한 공조 체계를 구축하는 데 주력했다.
특히, 영종구는 각 기관이 소유·관리 중인 부지 내 방치폐기물 9건에 대해 오는 7월 30일까지 신속히 정비를 완료해 달라고 강력히 요청했다.
또, 영종구는 잔여 진행 건 중 개인·법인 사유지 내의 방치폐기물 30건에 대해서는 ‘청결유지명령’과 ‘행정대집행’을 진행하는 등 강력하게 대응해 나갈 방침이다.
무엇보다 지역 주민들이 일상에서 빠른 변화를 체감할 수 있도록, 오는 10월 정비 완료를 목표로 행정절차 기간을 기존 6~8개월에서 최소 3개월까지 대폭 단축해 추진 속도를 한층 끌어올릴 계획이다.
손화정 영종구청장은 “깨끗한 도시환경은 주민 삶의 질과 직결되는 가장 기본적인 행정서비스”라며, “방치폐기물 문제를 신속히 해결하여 주민 누구나 깨끗한 생활환경을 체감할 수 있도록 현장 중심의 행정을 지속적으로 추진하겠다”고 강조했다.

또한, 인천시 영종구가 오는 8월 9일 영종구 청소년수련관에서 2027년도 대학 수시모집을 앞두고 EBS와 함께하는 ‘2026년 영종구 입시설명회’를 개최한다고 밝혔다.
영종구에 따르면, 영종구 출범 이후 처음 개최되는 이번 입시설명회는 변화하는 대학입시제도에 대한 정확한 정보를 제공하고, 1:1 맞춤 상담을 통해 학생들의 성공적인 진로 설계를 지원하기 위해 마련된 자리다.
이번 설명회에서는 EBS 입시영역 대표 강사인 윤윤구 강사의 ‘수시 맞춤형 대입 전략’ 특강이 2시간 동안 진행된다. 동시에 EBS 강사들이 상담 부스를 설치해 ‘1:1 맞춤형 대입 상담’도 실시될 예정이다.
특히, 1명당 40분간 진행되는 ‘1:1 대입 상담’은 지역 주민들의 높은 수요를 반영해 지난해 중구 이름으로 개최됐던 행사보다 상담 대상자 수를 확대(21명↑)함으로써, 더욱 많은 학생이 전문적인 진학 상담을 받을 것으로 기대된다.
설명회는 영종구 소재 고등학생(고3 우선) 및 N수생, 학부모 등을 대상으로 진행된다.
단, 효율적인 행사 운영을 위해 ‘수시 맞춤형 대입 전략 설명회’는 200명, ‘1:1 대입 상담’은 70명(상담 시간 지정)을 선착순 모집한다.

또한, 영종구가 13일, 지역 미취업 청년들의 항공 산업 분야 취업 역량 강화와 공항경제권 구축에 필요한 맞춤형 인재 양성을 위한 ‘2026년도 보안검색 및 항공경비요원 양성 과정’을 개강했다고 밝혔다.
영종구에 따르면, 이번 과정은 영종구가 청년 인재들에게 공항 특화 전문 교육을 제공함으로써, 인천국제공항 운영의 핵심 직무인 ‘보안검색’과 ‘항공경비’ 분야의 전문 인력을 체계적으로 육성하는 데 목적을 뒀다.
특히, 청년들에게 양질의 일자리를 제공하고 지역 전략 산업인 항공 산업의 경쟁력을 강화하기 위한 영종구의 대표적인 맞춤형 일자리 프로젝트이기도 하다.
실제로 이 사업은 지난해 ‘시-군·구 상생일자리 지원사업’ 공모에 선정돼 교육생 36명 중 26명이 취업에 성공(취업률 72%)하는 큰 성과를 거둔 바 있다.
