[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 국가유산청은 제48차 세계유산위원회와 연계하여 오는 24일부터 25일까지 부산 벡스코 제2전시장과 주요 유적지 일원에서 '동아시아 대도시 근대건축 유산의 가치 재발견과 다자간 협력' 국제학술대회를 개최한다.
국가유산청이 주최하고 도코모모코리아가 주관하는 이번 행사는 한국, 중국, 일본, 대만의 전문가들이 한자리에 모여 도시 개발 속에서 직면한 근대건축유산의 보존·활용 과제를 논의하고 다자간 협력 네트워크를 구축하는 자리이다.
행사 일정과 주요 내용
첫째 날인 오는 24일에는 벡스코 제2전시장에서 오전 10시부터 윤인석 성균관대학교 명예교수의 기조 강연으로 학술대회가 시작된다. 이어서 니시자와 야스히코 나고야대 교수와 김종헌 배재대 교수 등이 참여하는 동아시아 지역 근대건축 보존을 위한 제도와 사례 발표가 진행된다.
또한 이연경 연세대 교수와 아지사카 토루 도코모모재팬 대표 등이 철거 위기를 극복한 각국의 자산 보존 사례를 공유하며, 김기수 동아대 교수와 김훈 경북대 교수가 세계유산 잠정목록에 등재된 피란수도 부산의 역사적 가치를 발표한다. 주제 발표가 모두 끝난 후에는 국내외 전문가들이 참여하는 종합토론이 열려 실질적인 다자간 협력 방안을 심도 있게 모색한다.
현장 답사 프로그램
둘째 날인 25일에는 오전 10시부터 12시 30분까지 전문가의 상세한 해설을 들으며 역사적 현장을 둘러보는 답사가 진행된다. 참석자들은 유네스코 세계유산 우선등재목록에 이름이 올라간 피란수도 부산유산의 주요 거점을 방문한다. 임시수도기념관, 임시수도정부청사, 부산항 제1부두를 비롯해 영도 일대의 산업유산 등을 직접 살펴보며 근대건축의 보존 현황을 마주한다.
연계 공모전 및 특별전
학술대회 개막 직전인 24일 오전 9시 10분에는 근현대건축유산에 대한 국민적 관심을 높이기 위해 추진된 2026 근현대건축 문화유산 활성화 공모전 시상식이 함께 개최된다.
영덕 영해장터 근대역사문화공간과 부산항 제1부두를 대상으로 진행된 이번 공모에는 전국 대학생과 대학원생의 출품작 25건이 접수되었으며, 심사를 거쳐 창의적인 대안을 제시한 10점의 수상작과 다수의 입선작이 선정되었다.
이 수상작들은 20일부터 29일까지 벡스코 제1전시장에서 나의 유산: 살아온, 살아가는, 살아갈이라는 주제로 열리는 특별전에 전시된다. 이번 행사는 관심 있는 사람이라면 누구나 당일 현장에서 참여할 수 있으며 구체적인 사항은 도코모모코리아 누리집에서 확인할 수 있다.

In connection with the 48th World Heritage Committee session, the Cultural Heritage Administration will host an international conference titled "Rediscovering the Value of Modern Architectural Heritage in East Asian Metropolises and Multilateral Cooperation" from July 24 to July 25 at BEXCO Exhibition Center 2 and various historic sites across Busan.
Hosted by the Cultural Heritage Administration and organized by Docomomo Korea, this event brings together experts from South Korea, China, Japan, and Taiwan to discuss the conservation and utilization challenges of modern architectural heritage amid rapid urban development, while establishing a multilateral cooperative network.
Conference Schedule and Core Themes
The conference will commence on the first day, July 24, at 10:00 AM at BEXCO Exhibition Center 2, starting with a keynote speech by Professor Emeritus Yoon In-suk of Sungkyunkwan University on the current status and challenges of conserving modern architecture in East Asia.
Following the keynote, presentations will address three major themes. Professor Nishizawa Yasuhiko of Nagoya University and Professor Kim Jong-heon of Pai Chai University, among others, will present on the institutional frameworks and case studies for conservation, focusing on conflicts and adjustments between heritage preservation and urban development.
Subsequently, Professor Lee Yeon-kyung of Yonsei University and Toru Ajisaka, President of Docomomo Japan, will share successful instances of overcoming demolition crises in their respective countries. Lastly, Professor Kim Ki-soo of Dong-A University and Professor Kim Hoon of Kyungpook University will discuss the historical significance and urban conservation strategies for Busan, the wartime capital, which is inscribed on the World Heritage Tentative List. A comprehensive panel discussion involving both domestic and international experts will follow to explore practical collaborative measures.
Expert-Guided Field Survey
On the second day, July 25, an expert-guided field survey will take place from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM, providing participants with detailed historical commentaries on-site. Attendees will visit key locations of the "Wartime Capital Busan Heritage," which is currently on the UNESCO World Heritage Inscribed Priority List. The itinerary includes the Provisional Capital Commemoration Hall, the Provisional Capital Government Complex, Busan Port Pier 1, and the industrial heritage sites around the Yeongdo district, offering a direct look at the preservation status of these modern landmarks.
Associated Competition and Special Exhibition
Prior to the conference opening, the award ceremony for the 2026 Modern and Contemporary Architectural Heritage Activation Competition will be held on July 24 at 9:10 AM to raise public awareness and gather creative ideas. Focusing on the Yeongdeok Yeonghae Market Modern Historical and Cultural Space and Busan Port Pier 1, the competition received 25 submissions from undergraduate and graduate students nationwide.
Through a rigorous evaluation process, ten winning entries and several honorable mentions were selected for their creative solutions that balance value preservation with innovation. These winning works will be displayed from July 20 to July 29 at BEXCO Exhibition Center 1 during the special exhibition titled "My Heritage: Lived, Living, and to Live."
