(헌법재판소 정문앞, 한국법치진흥원 임원진)
시민사회단체인 한국법치진흥원(이사장 이선신)의 임원들이 17일 오후 4시 헌법재판소를 방문해 제78주년 제헌절의 뜻을 기렸다.
이들은 헌법재판소 주요시설을 둘러보며 견학했고, 대심판정에서는 황치연 홍익대 법대교수(전 헌법연구관)로부터 헌법재판에 대한 설명을 들었다.
"재판소원제 도입"과 "제헌절 법정공휴일 환원"을 환영한다는 취지로 모인 한국법치진흥원의 집행부 멤버들은 헌법재판소 대심판정에서 헌재재판관 석에 앉아 윤석열 내란쿠데타 수괴의 파면결정을 회상하기도 하였다.
헌법재판소 전직 황치연 헌법연구관의 설명에 따르면 다음과 같다. 경내에 있는 재동 백송은 우리나라에서 가장 유명한 백송으로, 천연기념물로 지정된 매우 귀한 나무다. 수령은 600년 이상으로 추정된다. 높이는 약 17m이다 이 나무는 나이가 들수록 나무껍질이 흰빛을 띠는데 조선 초기부터 지금까지 한자리를 지키며, 박규수의 집터와 광혜원을 거쳐 헌법재판소에 이르기까지 600년의 역사를 함께해 온 '역사의 산증인'으로 불린다.
1층 로비의 파란색과 노란색이 어우러진 색유리(스테인드글라스)는 이러한 의미를 담고 있는 파란색은 헌법의 권위, 진실, 정의, 평화, 이성을 상징하는 것이고 노란색은 희망, 생명, 국민의 활력, 미래를 상징한다고 한다.
그러니까 빛이 창을 통해 들어오는 모습은 헌법의 가치가 국민의 삶을 밝게 비추고, 정의가 사회에 스며든다는 의미를 표현한 것으로 볼 수 있다.
강민숙 시인이 방문기념플래카드를 몸에 두르고 퍼포먼스를 해 일행에게 웃음과 즐거움을 선사하기도 했다. 헌법재판소 측에서는 견학용 선물꾸러미를 선사하여 한국법치진흥원의 헌재 방문단 일행에게 행복한 추억을 안겨주었다.

견학을 마친 후에는 헌법재판소 본관 앞에서 “재판소원제 도입 환영”, “제헌절 법정공휴일 환원 환영”, “윤석열 탄핵 인용(2025.4.4.) 고맙습니다” 등의 문구를 담은 플래카드와 피켓을 들고 기념사진을 찍었다.

방문 이후에는 피켓을 들고 인사동 거리를 보행하며 시민들에게 제헌절 경축 메시지를 전달했다. 제헌절은 2008년 법정공휴일에서 제외됐으나, 민주주의 가치를 되새기기 위해 금년에 다시 법정공휴일로 환원됐음을 경축하는 자리였다.
이날 행사에서 직책을 부여 맡은 회원으로는 강민숙 ,진현, 이철희, 부원장이고, 사무총장은 이경원이고, 상임이사로는 한명환, 박정식, 이성준, 오점환 등이다.
이 모임은 앞으로 산행과 정기적인 만남과 총회를 통해 회원학보를 할 예정이다. 한국법치진흥원은 우리와 우리 후손을 위해서 한국사회 발전에 기여하자는 취지에서 만들어진 사회 단체다.
Executives of the Korea Institute for the Promotion of the Rule of Law (Chairperson Lee Seon-sin), a civic organization, visited the Constitutional Court at 4 p.m. on the 17th to commemorate the 78th Constitution Day.
They toured the Court's major facilities and listened to an explanation of constitutional adjudication from Professor Hwang Chi-yeon of Hongik University Law School (former Constitutional Research Officer) in the Grand Courtroom.
Gathered to welcome the "introduction of the judicial appeal system" and the "restoration of Constitution Day as a legal public holiday," the executive members of the Korea Institute for the Promotion of the Rule of Law sat in the seats of the Constitutional Court Justices in the Grand Courtroom and recalled the decision to impeach Yoon Seok-yeol, the ringleader of the sedition coup.
According to the explanation by former Constitutional Research Officer Hwang Chi-yeon, the following is true: The Jaedong White Pine located within the court grounds is the most famous white pine in Korea and is a very precious tree designated as a natural monument. Its age is estimated to be over 600 years. Standing approximately 17 meters tall, this tree's bark turns white as it ages. Having stood in the same spot from the early Joseon Dynasty to the present day, it is known as a "living witness to history," having witnessed 600 years of history, spanning from the site of Park Gyu-su's residence and Gwanghyewon to the Constitutional Court.
The stained glass in the first-floor lobby, featuring a blend of blue and yellow, embodies these meanings. The blue is said to symbolize the authority of the Constitution, truth, justice, peace, and reason, while the yellow symbolizes hope, life, the vitality of the people, and the future.
Therefore, the sight of light entering through the windows can be interpreted as an expression of the Constitution's values brightly illuminating the lives of the people and justice permeating society.
Poet Kang Min-sook brought laughter and joy to the group by performing a stunt while wearing a commemorative banner. The Constitutional Court presented the delegation from the Korea Institute for the Promotion of the Rule of Law with a gift package for the tour, leaving them with happy memories.
Its height is about 17 meters. After the tour, they took a commemorative photo in front of the main building of the Constitutional Court, holding placards and picket signs with slogans such as “Welcome the introduction of the judicial appeal system,” “Welcome the restoration of Constitution Day as a legal holiday,” and “Thank you for the acceptance of Yoon Suk-yeol’s impeachment (April 4, 2025).”
Following the visit, they walked along Insa-dong Street holding the picket signs to deliver celebratory messages for Constitution Day to citizens. The event celebrated the fact that Constitution Day, which was removed from the list of legal holidays in 2008, was reinstated as a legal holiday this year to reaffirm the values of democracy.
Members appointed to positions at the event included Kang Min-sook, Jin Hyun, and Lee Cheol-hee as Vice Presidents; Lee Kyung-won as Secretary General; and Han Myung-hwan, Park Jung-sik, Lee Sung-jun, and Oh Jeom-hwan as Standing Directors.
This group plans to publish a member newsletter through hiking, regular meetings, and general assemblies in the future. The Korea Rule of Law Promotion Institute is a social organization established with the purpose of contributing to the development of Korean society for the sake of ourselves and our descendants.
