이재명 대통령이 25일(현지시간) "한·남미 협력은 단순 제조업 제품을 통해 천연자원을 교환하는 관계 아닌 혁신·투자·기술·인재를 통해 함께 가치를 창출하는 관계가 되어야 한다"고 했다.
남미 3개국(브라질·칠레·아르헨티나) 순방에 나선 이 대통령은 이날 공개된 스페인 'EFE 통신' 서면 인터뷰에서 "메르코수르(남미 공동시장)와 무역협정 협상 재개·AI 시대 핵심 광물 협력 강화를 추진하겠다"며 이같이 밝혔다.
그러면서 "메르코수르 회원국들은 농업·식량 생산·에너지·핵심 광물 분야, 한국은 첨단 제조업·디지털 기술·조선·배터리·혁신 분야에서 글로벌 선도국"이라며 "남미는 미래 산업에 필수 자원을 보유하고 있고, 한국은 첨단 기술·산업 노하우·투자 역량을 갖추고 있다"고 했다.
또 "(한·남미) 강점 결합 시 양 지역 모두 도움 되는 회복력 있는 가치 사슬을 구축할 수 있다"며 "함께 회복력 있는 공급망 구축·새 산업 육성으로 양 지역에 도움 되는 양질 일자리를 창출할 수 있다"고 했다.
이어 "보호무역주의 확산·지정학적 긴장·공급망 교란·에너지 안보 우려가 커지는 상황일수록 각국에 신뢰할 수 있는 파트너·명확한 규범·상호 신뢰 기반 무역이 필요하다"고 주장했다.
더불어 "(2004년 한·칠레 FTA 협정 체결) 20여 년이 지난 지금 디지털 무역·환경 협력·노동 기준·성평등·혁신 같은 새 분야를 반영해 협정을 현대화할 기회를 맞은 것"이라며 "한·남미가 경제 분야를 넘어 사회 교류·미래 세대 협력에서도 깊은 관계를 구축하는 것"이라고 덧붙였다.
