독립기념관이 제81주년 광복절을 기해 한국을 방문한 국외 거주 독립유공자 후손들을 위해 ‘선조기록열람행사’를 마련했다.
이번 행사는 국가보훈부가 주관한 초청 사업의 일환으로 실시됐다. 미국과 중국, 카자흐스탄, 키르기스스탄, 멕시코 등 5개국에 터를 잡고 살아온 독립운동가 15인의 후손 22명을 포함해 동행 가족 등 모두 29명이 참석해 뜻깊은 자리를 함께했다.
이날 현장에는 6·10만세운동의 주역인 박용규 지사(건국훈장 애족장)와 대한민국 임시정부에서 백범 김구 주석의 주치의를 맡았던 유진동 지사(건국훈장 애국장) 등 유서 깊은 독립운동가들의 후대들이 한자리에 모였다.
참석한 후손들은 자료부 연구원의 안내를 받으며 조상들의 숨결이 살아있는 소장 유물 15점을 상세히 둘러보았다.

열람된 유물 가운데는 국가등록문화유산으로 지정된 이자해 자전 초고본,을 비롯해 기려수필, '회상기: 아령과 중령에서 진행되던 조선민족해방운동을 회상하면서' 등 사료적 가치가 매우 높은 기록들이 대거 포함됐다.
현장에서 할아버지의 성함을 직접 확인한 유진동 지사의 후손 유수동 씨는 "선조의 숭고한 뜻을 가슴에 품고 견뎌온 세월이 길었는데, 국가 차원에서 이처럼 높이 평가해 주니 그간의 노고를 모두 씻어내는 듯하다"라며 "개인이 보관했다면 훼손되기 쉬웠을 귀중한 유산이 독립기념관의 체계적인 관리 속에 안전하게 보존되고 있어 깊이 감사드린다"고 소회를 밝혔다.
한편, 독립기념관은 지난해 8월 유진동 지사 관련 유물인 '동제의과대학 동학통신록'을 선뜻 내어준 중국 충칭 거주 후손 유수동 씨에게 감사의 마음을 담아 유물 복제본과 감사패를 수여했다.
이에 더해 참석자인 김동진 지사(건국훈장 애족장)의 후손 김연령 씨(중국 거주)와 손병석 지사(대통령표창)의 후손 손재호 씨(미국 거주)가 가문에 대대로 전해져 오던 선조들의 역사 기록을 독립기념관에 추가로 기증하며 독립운동 정신 계승에 힘을 보탰다.

A total of 29 people attended, including 22 descendants of 15 independence activists who have settled in five countries—the United States, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Mexico—as well as their accompanying family members, sharing a meaningful gathering.
On this day, the descendants of distinguished independence activists gathered in one place, including Patriot Park Yong-gyu (Order of Merit for National Foundation, Patriotic Chapter), a key figure in the June 10 Independence Movement, and Patriot Yoo Jin-dong (Order of Merit for National Foundation, Patriotic Chapter), who served as the personal physician to Chairman Kim Koo of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea. Guided by a researcher from the Archives, the attending descendants thoroughly examined 15 artifacts in the collection that still bear the spirit of their ancestors.
Among the artifacts viewed were a large number of records of exceptional historical value, including the first draft of Yi Ja-hae's autobiography, designated as a National Registered Cultural Heritage, as well as *Giryosupil* and *Memoirs: Recalling the Korean National Liberation Movement in Aryeong and Jungnyeong*.
Yoo Su-dong, a descendant of Patriot Yoo Jin-dong who personally verified his grandfather's name on-site, shared his sentiments, stating, "I have endured for a long time holding my ancestor's noble spirit in my heart, and seeing it highly valued at the national level feels like it washes away all the hardships of the past." He added, "I am deeply grateful that this precious heritage, which would have been easily damaged if kept by an individual, is being safely preserved under the systematic management of the Independence Hall of Korea." Meanwhile, the Independence Hall of Korea presented a replica of the artifact and a plaque of appreciation to Mr. Yoo Soo-dong, a descendant residing in Chongqing, China, who readily donated the "Dongje Medical College Donghak Tongsinnok," an artifact related to Patriot Yoo Jin-dong, last August.
In addition, attendees Kim Yeon-ryeong (residing in China), a descendant of Patriot Kim Dong-jin (Order of Merit for National Foundation, Patriotic Chapter), and Son Jae-ho (residing in the U.S.), a descendant of Patriot Son Byeong-seok (Presidential Commendation), contributed to the continuation of the spirit of the independence movement by additionally donating historical records of their ancestors, passed down through generations, to the Independence Hall of Korea.
