<브레이크뉴스 횡성 = 김일웅 기자> 횡성군의 대표 여름 축제인 ‘제15회 둔내고랭지토마토축제’가 3일간 5만 5,000여 명의 방문객을 동원하며 대성황 속에 막을 내렸다.

18일 둔내고랭지토마토축제위원회(위원장 추연호)에 따르면, 지난 14일부터 16일까지 둔내종합체육공원 일원에서 열린 이번 축제에는 무더위 속에서도 총 5만 5,000여 명의 인파가 다녀간 것으로 잠정 집계됐다. 횡성군 전체 인구를 훌쩍 뛰어넘는 방문객 수다.

축제 기간 내내 최고 인기 프로그램인 토마토 풀장 ‘황금반지를 찾아라’에는 체험객들의 발길이 끊이지 않았다. 또한 제15회를 기념해 유치한 KBS ‘전국노래자랑 횡성군 편’ 공개 녹화와 ‘둔내 별밤 타임머신’ 등 야간 무대 공연에는 무려 5,000여 명이 운집해 열띤 축제 분위기를 연출했다.

가족 단위 방문객을 겨냥한 어린이 워터풀, 매직·버블쇼를 비롯해 이색 팝업 체험 부스 등도 큰 호응을 얻었다. 축제위원회는 폭염에 대비해 생수 무료 제공은 물론, 메인 무대 관람석에 대형 에어돔 그늘막 3동을 설치하고 부스 간 그늘막 터널 등을 배치해 안전하고 쾌적한 환경을 제공하는 데 만전을 기했다.
이 같은 폭발적인 흥행은 지역 경제 활성화로 고스란히 이어졌다. 축제장 내 농특산물 판매 부스 매출은 총 7,200만 원을 달성하며 농가 소득 증대에 크게 기여했다.

추연호 위원장은 “무더위에도 불구하고 전국에서 찾아주신 방문객들 덕분에 둔내 토마토의 우수성을 알리고 지역 상권에 큰 활력을 불어넣을 수 있었다”며 “앞으로도 농가 소득 증대와 지역 경제에 실질적으로 보탬이 되는 내실 있는 축제로 발전시켜 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.
