브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 김윤덕 국토교통부 장관이 미군이 반환한 서울 용산공원 내 주택 개발 논란과 관련, 공원 전체를 개발하겠다는 것이 아니라고 못 박았다.
김 장관은 19일 국회 국토교통위원회 전체회의에서 김남근 더불어민주당 의원이 용산공원 가운데 공원 용도로 부적합한 일부 지역을 개발해 청년주택 용지로 활용하는 방안을 논의하고 있느냐고 묻자 "그렇다"고 답했다.
김 장관은 "용산공원 전체 녹지를 밀고 주택을 짓느냐는 질문을 많이 받는데 전혀 그렇지 않다"라며 "그린벨트도 훼손으로 인해 이미 가치를 상실한 일부 지역을 활용하듯, 용산공원 역시 공원 녹지로서의 기능을 일부 상실한 곳에 대해 제한적으로 청년주택을 공급하는 대안이 어떤 게 있는지 검토하겠다는 취지"라고 설명했다.
이어 김정재 국민의힘 의원이 용산공원 부지 일부에만 주택을 공급하겠다는 의미인지 묻자, 김 장관은 이미 부지 내에 장교 숙소와 군인 아파트, 구 방위사업청 건물 등이 있다고 언급하며 "이처럼 녹지 기능을 완전히 상실한 지역이 일부 있어 이곳들을 활용하겠다는 것"이라고 말했다.
김 장관은 개발제한구역(그린벨트) 활용 논의와 관련해서도, 보존 가치가 있는 녹지를 훼손해 주택을 짓겠다는 취지가 아니라고 강조했다.
주택 공급 규모에 대해선 서울시와 협의가 진행 중이다. 김남근 의원이 "6000가구, 8000가구, 1만가구 등의 공급 규모를 논의하고 있는 것으로 안다"고 말하자 김 장관은 "맞다"고 답했다. 다만 구체적인 공급 대상지와 규모를 결정할 단계가 아니라고 했다.
김 장관은 용산공원 '보존'과 '개발' 문제에 대한 사회적 합의가 필요하다는 점을 강조하며 "현재 구체적인 방안을 확정하기보다는 다양한 의견을 수렴하기 위한 숙의와 공론화 과정을 준비하고 있다"고 설명했다.
