Kooksoondang Opens Chuseok Ancestral Rite Wine Brewing Class at Park Bong-dam, a Liquor Culture Complex

Open to the first 20 applicants on the 5th of next month… Participants will brew ‘Sindoju’ to offer on ancestral rite tables

<Break News Hoengseong = Reporter Kim Il-woong> In anticipation of the upcoming Chuseok holiday, Kooksoondang has prepared a special experience event where participants can appreciate the charm of Korean liquor and brew traditional ancestral rite wine to offer to their ancestors.

According to Kooksoondang on the 19th, the ‘2026 Chuseok Ancestral Rite Wine Brewing Class in Park Bong-dam’ will be held for approximately two hours starting at 10:00 AM on the 5th of next month at ‘Park Bong-dam,’ a liquor culture complex located in Bongdam-eup, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do.

This class will feature an experience where participants can directly make ‘Sindoju,’ a traditional ancestral rite wine brewed by making ‘Muri-tteok’ (Baekseolgi) with new rice and mixing it with yeast. Participants can brew over 1.5 liters of ceremonial rice wine (Charyeju), take it home for about two weeks of fermentation, and place it on an actual Chuseok ancestral table. In addition, there will be a tasting session comparing Kooksoondang’s Charyeju ‘Yedam,’ brewed using traditional methods, with Japanese-style sake to explore the excellence of our unique traditional rice wine.

‘Park Bong Dam,’ where the event is being held, is a space opened last February by Kooksoondang on the site of the former Hwaseong Brewery. It is a total liquor culture experience space equipped with a craft brewery and a bottle shop. Participants can also tour the ‘Kooksoondang Our Liquor Heritage Exhibition,’ which displays historical brewing equipment.

This Charyeju brewing class is accepting 20 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. To promote traditional liquor culture, the participation fee has been set at a lower-than-regular price of 20,000 won (10,000 won for university students). All participants will receive the traditional Charyeju ‘Yedam’ as a souvenir. Detailed information and registration are available through the Kooksoondang ‘Our Liquor Areumteo’ website or the Park Bong Dam Instagram page.
