Samsung Electronics Introduces Galaxy’Self-Repair Program’

Break News Reporter Jeong Min-woo= Consumers of Samsung Electronics' Galaxy smartphones and laptops are expected to be able to repair their purchased products themselves in the future.

Samsung Electronics announced that it would introduce a “self-repair program” in Korea starting on the 30th, allowing consumers to repair their own products.

With the introduction of the self-repair program, domestic consumers will be able to purchase necessary parts online and repair them themselves, in addition to visiting the Samsung Electronics service center and repairing the product.

Self-repair will start for some models and limited parts, and will be gradually expanded in the future. Accurate repairable models and parts can be found on the Samsung Electronics website.

First, self-repair of Galaxy mobile products and some models of TVs will become possible. It starts with three models (UN32N4000AFXKR, UN32N4010AFXKR, UN32N4020AFXKR), Galaxy S20∙S21∙S22 series, Galaxy Book Pro 39.6cm (15.6-inch) series laptop, and 80cm (32-inch) TV. Users of this model can purchase necessary parts and repair tools through the Samsung Electronics service website.

In the case of smartphones, self-repair is possible for three parts: the display, the back cover, and the charging port. For laptops, a total of seven parts, including the touchpad and fingerprint recognition power button, are included in the subject of self-repair. These parts are the parts with the highest customer demand for repair. For all three models of the TV, the panel can be replaced.

The seven parts of a notebook are a display, a battery, a touchpad, a fingerprint power button, a front case, a rear case, and a rubber base.

Consumers can check repair manuals and videos for each part on the Samsung Electronics website. After replacing a part, you can use the “self-repair helper app” to optimize the new part for proper operation. Then, through the self-diagnosis function of the ‘Samsung Members App’, you can check whether or not there is an abnormality in the repair result.

Consumers who have completed self-repair can visit the service center or return some of the replaced parts and repair tools to Samsung Electronics through courier service and receive a refund of the eco-friendly deposit. Recovered parts are recycled or lead to responsible disposal through inspection by Samsung Electronics.

Samsung Electronics introduced a self-repair program in the US in August of last year, expanding Galaxy users' repair options. The introduction of self-repair was second in Korea, and the target models were expanded to include some TV products.

"Samsung Electronics is always doing its best to ensure that consumers can experience the best products and services for a long time," said Noh Tae-moon, president of Samsung Electronics' MX Business Division. We will improve,” he said.

On the other hand, consumers who are considering self-repair should decide whether or not to self-repair after carefully reviewing the self-repair-related information and related precautions introduced on the homepage.
