인천해경에 따르면, 이번 단속은 여름철 해양레저 활동 증가에 따른 해양사고를 선제적으로 예방하기 위해 추진되며, 단속대상은 어선과 낚시어선, 수상레저기구, 유·도선, 화물선 등 해상에서 운항하는 모든 선박을 대상으로 집중 단속할 예정이다.
아울러, 인천해경은 단속의 실효성을 높이기 위해 해당 기간 중 상황실·경비함정·파출소·해상교통관제센터(VTS) 등과 해·육상 연계 합동단속을 펼칠 계획이다.
양종타 서장은 “여름철에는 바다를 찾는 레저 활동객이 증가하는 만큼 출항 전 음주 상태에서의 운항을 금지하고, 해양 안전수칙을 준수해 줄 것을 당부드린다”며, “여름 휴가철 바다를 찾는 관광객의 안전을 위해 음주운항 단속을 한층 강화하고, 안전한 해상교통 문화 조성을 위해 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
한편, 최근 3년간 인천 관내 음주운항 단속 건수는 2023년 7건, 2024년 1건, 2025년 2건으로 총 10건이다.
