Okcheon County Agricultural Technology Center Reports 'Excellent' Satisfaction Among Farmers Using Agricultural Machinery Rental Services… Strengthening Customized Services

The Okcheon County Agricultural Technology Center has decided to compare and analyze the results of a survey conducted among local farmers regarding the use of agricultural machinery rental services over the past two years (2025–2026). Based on this analysis, the center plans to implement measures to strengthen customized services that meet the needs of farming households. This analysis was conducted based on responses from 345 respondents in the 2025 survey and 399 respondents in a survey conducted over four months from January to May 2026.

The analysis revealed a significant increase in the proportion of respondents aged 70 or older, rising from 22.3% in 2025 to 32.0% in 2026, clearly confirming the trend of rural aging. The main crops cultivated were rice, peaches, and chili peppers, in that order, while the most frequently used machinery through the rental service was tractors, cultivators, and excavators. In particular, tractors ranked first for two consecutive years as the agricultural machinery most needed by farmers, and rental periods were mostly short-term, lasting one or two days to ensure timely operations during the farming season.

Overall satisfaction with the rental offices remained high, with 70.7% of respondents reporting satisfaction in 2025 and 63.0% in 2026. Based on these survey results, the Agricultural Technology Center plans to significantly improve farmer-centered services in the future.

First, the center intends to actively reflect relevant budgets in the 2027 main budget to expand the supply of seasonal specialty agricultural machinery, such as rice transplanters and compost spreaders, as well as tractors and cultivators, which are in high demand among farmers. Furthermore, to alleviate inconvenience for farmers using the service from distant locations, the center will continue to operate the current systems of rentals on holidays and delivery the day before, and will also strive to secure a budget to expand support for agricultural machinery transportation fees. In addition, plans are underway to secure additional personnel and budget to expand agricultural work outsourcing services for elderly farmers and vulnerable groups, as well as to increase the frequency of mobile agricultural machinery repairs and on-site repair training. The plan also includes strengthening regular inspection and maintenance systems while conducting staff courtesy training to ensure the highest quality of service.

Woo Hee-je, Head of the Technical Support Division, explained that survey data accumulated over the past two years allowed for a more accurate understanding of the reality of aging rural communities and the demand for agricultural machinery in the field. He added that they will do their utmost to ensure farmers can conveniently rent agricultural machinery in a timely manner through thorough equipment inspections and friendly service.
