브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 정치 브로커 명태균씨로부터 여론조사를 제공받고 후원자를 통해 비용을 대납받은 혐의로 재판에 넘겨진 오세훈 서울시장에게 특별검사팀이 징역 1년 6개월을 구형했다.
'김건희 특별검사팀'은 17일 서울중앙지법 형사합의22부(부장판사 조형우) 심리로 열린 정치자금법 위반 혐의 결심공판에서 오 시장에게 징역 1년 6개월과 추징금 3300만원을 선고해 달라고 재판부에 요청했다.
함께 기소된 강철원 전 서울시 정무부시장과 사업가 김한정씨에게는 각각 징역 1년을 구형했다.
특검팀은 "오세훈 시장은 유력 정치인으로서 정치자금법을 준수해야 할 위치에 있음에도 정치활동과 밀접한 여론조사 비용을 적법한 절차 없이 제3자가 부담하도록 했다"며 "정치자금의 투명성 확보라는 입법 취지를 훼손했다"고 밝혔다.
이어 "정치자금 규제를 우회해 법질서에 대한 국민 신뢰를 훼손했으며, 범행의 최종 수혜자임에도 수사와 재판 과정에서 책임을 부인해 왔다"며 "죄질이 결코 가볍지 않아 엄중한 처벌이 필요하다"고 주장했다.
반면 오 시장 측은 혐의를 전면 부인했다.
오 시장 변호인은 "이 사건은 명태균씨의 사기극이자 공갈극"이라며 "오 시장은 여론조사 비용을 대납받을 이유도, 대납받은 사실도 없다"고 반박했다.
특히 "명태균 씨의 진술은 일관성이 없고 신빙성이 부족하다"며 "특검의 기소는 일부 진술만을 취사선택한 짜깁기 기소"라고 주장했다.
최후진술에 나선 오 시장 역시 "이번 사건은 정치적으로 편향된 특검 수사에 따른 기소"라고 주장하며 무죄를 호소했다. 그는 특검 수사 과정과 명씨에 대한 수사 여부를 문제 삼으며 "불리할까 봐 명씨에 대해 수사하지 않는 것 아닌가. 떳떳하십니까. 검사님들 떳떳하십니까"라고 따져 묻기도 했다.

한편, 오 시장은 2021년 4·7 서울시장 보궐선거를 앞두고 명씨로부터 공표·비공표 여론조사 결과를 총 십여차례 제공받고, 당시 비서실장이던 강 전 부시장을 통해 김씨가 3300만원 상당의 여론조사 비용을 대신 납부하도록 한 혐의로 지난해 12월 기소됐다.
강 전 부시장은 명씨와 설문지 등을 주고받으며 여론조사 진행에 관여한 혐의로, 김씨는 오 시장 측이 부담해야 할 정치자금을 대신 납부한 혐의로 함께 재판에 넘겨졌다.
재판부는 오는 7월 22일 오후 2시 선고 공판을 열고 최종 판단을 내릴 예정이다.
