충남 보령시가 8일 서울 코엑스에서 열린 ‘제16회 공기의 날 기념식’에서 전국적인 대기질 개선 성과를 인정받아 ‘맑은공기 모범도시(굿 에어 시티)’로 이름을 올렸다.
화력발전소가 밀집해 대기오염의 오명을 짊어져야 했던 지역적 한계를 수소 에너지 전환이라는 정공법으로 돌파한 결과다.
시는 수소 인프라를 공격적으로 구축하고 전기차 등 친환경 모빌리티 보급을 대폭 늘리며 ‘친환경 수소 도시’로의 탈바꿈을 주도해왔다.
관내 발전소들과 자발적 오염물질 감축 협약을 맺는 등 산업 현장에서부터 발생하는 미세먼지의 발원지를 철저히 관리했다.
노후 경유차의 조기 폐차 지원과 저녹스 보일러 보급 같은 생활 밀착형 대책은 시민들이 피부로 느끼는 공기 질을 바꾸어 놓았다.
