대전 서구의 풍부한 의료 인프라와 대덕특구의 과학기술 역량을 결합해 서구를 ‘미래형 의생명 거점’으로 탈바꿈시키겠다는 제안이 나왔다.
신혜영 서구청장 예비후보(서구의원)는 8일 서구 발전을 위한 3호 공약으로 ‘국립기초의학연구원 서구 유치 추진 및 임상중개 연구 거점 조성’을 전격 발표했다.
신 예비후보는 국가적 과제인 기초의학연구원 설립을 서구청장이 앞장서 견인하겠다는 의지를 강하게 표명했다.
대전시와 국회, 정부를 설득해 서구를 가장 적합한 입지로 제시하고, 기초연구 성과가 실제 치료와 산업화로 연결되는 ‘임상중개 연구’의 중심지로 육성하겠다는 계획이다.
대전의 연구 역량과 서구의 의료 현장이 만날 때 비로소 완성도 높은 바이오 생태계가 만들어진다는게 신 예비후보 공약의 핵심이다.
이를 뒷받침할 구체적인 실천 과제로 유치 협력 네트워크 구축과 대학병원 중심의 연구 협의체 운영도 함께 내세웠다.
아울러 건양대병원과 을지대병원 등 관내 거점 병원과 협력해 의료 데이터와 재활·발달 분야의 행정 지원을 강화하고 둔산권 의료 관광 기반 또한 대폭 확대할 수 있도록 지원한다는 방침이다.
연구가 실험실에 머물지 않고 시민의 삶을 바꾸는 의료 혁신으로 이어지도록 행정의 역할을 재정의하겠다는 취지다.
특히 동구에 건립될 대전의료원과의 연계 방안도 공약에 담았다. 서구의 대학병원 인프라와 동구의 공공의료 기반이 결합하면 기초부터 임상, 공공의료까지 아우르는 대전형 의료 연구망을 구축할 수 있다는 계산이다.
