새 학기의 낯선 공기 속에 던져진 청소년들의 위태로운 감정을 보듬으려 지역 사회가 발 빠르게 움직였다.
세종충남대학교병원이 위탁 운영하는 세종광역정신건강복지센터는 지난 3월 26일부터 3주간 관내 중·고등학교 6곳을 직접 찾아가 ‘찾아가는 마음건강 캠페인’을 펼치며 아이들의 마음 문을 두드렸다.
세종특별자치시교육청과 손을 맞잡은 이번 행사는 경쟁과 성취에 매몰되기 쉬운 교실 안에 생명 존중과 자기 돌봄이라는 소중한 가치를 심는 마중물이 됐다.
캠페인의 백미는 자신의 감정을 색깔로 마주하는 ‘컬러 감정부스 심(心)금’이었다. 학생들은 최근 겪은 일들을 떠올리며 마음속에서 소용돌이치는 감정들을 있는 그대로 들여다보는 시간을 가졌다.
감정에는 좋고 나쁨이라는 이분법적 잣대가 있을 수 없으며, 지금 느끼는 슬픔이나 분노 역시 나를 이루는 소중한 조각임을 깨닫는 과정은 그 자체로 치유의 서사가 됐다. 1700여 명의 학생은 내면의 목소리에 귀를 기울이며 스스로를 긍정하는 법을 체득했다.

자칫 무겁게 느껴질 수 있는 자살 예방 교육을 메타버스 기반의 OX 퀴즈로 풀어내 학생과 교직원이 능동적으로 참여하는 축제의 장을 만들었다.
정답을 맞히는 재미 너머에는 위기의 순간에 도움을 요청할 수 있는 전문 기관의 정보와 생명에 대한 올바른 인식이 자연스럽게 스며들었다.
센터 관계자는 청소년들이 감정을 표현하는 경험이 생명 존중 문화를 만드는 가장 단단한 뿌리임을 강조했다.
이번 캠페인은 일회성 행사를 넘어 지역 공동체가 아이들의 마음 건강을 어떻게 책임져야 하는지를 보여주는 유의미한 이정표를 세웠다.
