박희조 동구청장과 설동호 대전시교육감이 10일 체결한 ‘경계선지능 아동(느린 학습자) 성장 지원 업무협약’은 정책의 사각지대에 방치됐던 아이들을 공공의 영역으로 끌어올린 의미 있는 결단이다.
질병과 정상의 모호한 경계에서 보호받지 못했던 아이들이 비로소 건강한 사회 구성원으로 자라날 발판을 마련한 셈이다.

동구는 대전 자치구 중 최초로 경계선지능 아동을 위한 치료비 지원 사업을 전격 시행한다.
1인당 최대 100만 원(검사비 30만 원, 치료비 70만 원)에 달하는 지원금은 경제적 부담 탓에 조기 치료를 망설였던 가정에 확실한 숨통을 틔워줄 전망이다.
