오늘의 대한민국을 있게 한 107년 전의 그 뜨거운 함성이 천안의 심장부에서 다시금 소환됐다.
천안시는 11일 남부오거리 이동녕 선생 동상 앞 기념공간에서 ‘대한민국 임시정부 수립 제107주년 기념식’을 열고, 국권 회복을 위해 헌신한 선열들의 숭고한 희생정신을 기렸다.
이번 기념식은 천안 출신 독립운동가이자 대한민국 임시정부의 초석을 놓은 석오 이동녕 선생의 업적을 선명히 부각하며, 임시정부가 지닌 역사적 가치를 시민들과 공유하기 위해 마련됐다.
행사에는 김석필 천안시장 권한대행 부시장을 비롯해 이정문·이재관 국회의원, 지역 정가 관계자와 시민 등 100여 명이 참석해 엄숙한 분위기 속에서 진행됐다.
참석자들은 107년 전 임시정부 수립을 선포하던 선조들의 심경으로 돌아가 힘차게 만세삼창을 외쳤다.
이동녕 선생은 임시정부 초대 의정원 의장을 지내며 대한민국의 민주공화제 기틀을 다진 인물이다.
그가 지켜냈던 독립의 의지가 오늘날 천안 시민들의 목소리를 통해 2026년의 현실로 이어지는 순간이었다.
김석필 권한대행은 대한민국 임시정부는 지금의 대한민국이 존재하게 된 역사적 출발점이라고 정의했다.
아울러 이번 기념식이 이동녕 선생을 비롯한 수많은 선열의 뜻을 깊이 되새기고, 그 숭고한 정신을 미래 세대로 이어가는 소중한 이정표가 되기를 바란다고 밝혔다.
