에코프로는 28일 포항시청 대외협력실에서 이강덕 포항시장, 김병 훈 에코프로머티리얼즈 대표이사, 전우헌 경북사회복지공동모금회 회 장 등이 참석한 가운데 ‘2023년 연말 이웃돕기 성금전달식’을 개최했 다고 밝혔다.
에코프로는 임직원 1186명이 참여해 조성한 기부금 8400여만 원과 포항 가족사들이 마련한 추가 기부금 3억 원 등 총 3억8400여만 원 을 기탁했다.
에코프로는 지난 2011년부터 임직원들의 자발적인 기부문화 조성을 위해 기부를 희망하는 구성원의 월 급여 1%로 조성한 기부금에 회사 가 같은 금액을 1:1로 매칭하는 ‘매칭그랜트(Matching Grant)’방식으로 연말 기부금을 마련하고 있다.
기부금은 경북사회복지공동모금회에 전달돼 포항지역의 결손아동, 독거노인, 장애인 등 소외계층을 위한 다양한 후원활동에 쓰일 예정이다.
에코프로는 지난 2017년 이차전지 양극소재 사업을 본격적으로 확 장하기 위해 포항지역에 대규모 투자를 시작했다. 배터리 재활용부터 양극재 생산까지 모든 과정을 한 사업장에서 처리하는 ‘클로즈드 루프 시스템(Closed loop eco-system)’을 구축해 2022년 글로벌 하이니켈 이차전지 소재 기업으로 발돋움했다.

성금 100억 원은 희망브리지 전국재해구호협회를 통해 포 항시로 전해져 긴급구호, 시설복구, 이재민 생필품 지원, 취약계층 주 거안정 등을 위해 활용됐다.
에코프로는 올해도 지역문화예술영재 후원, 혹서기 취약계층 물품 지원, 추석명절 취약계층 후원, 육아응원용품 마더박스 지원사업, 지역 아동센터 책걸상 제작 지원, 어린이 교통안전우산 지원 등 포항지역 취약계층을 대상으로 한 다양한 사회공헌 활동을 진행했다.
에코프로는 앞으로도 포항지역 취약계층을 위한 후원사업을 적극적 으로 발굴하고 생활에 어려움을 겪고 있는 시민들에게 실질적인 도움 이 될 수 있도록 힘을 기울일 방침이다.
