이날 업무 협약식에는 주낙영 시장, 김준석 서라벌도시가스㈜ 대표, 이동협 시의회 부의장을 비롯한 지역 이장 등 15명이 참석했다.
향후 두 기관은 사업비 75억2200만원(도·시 65%, 서라벌 35%)을 들여 올 12월까지 552세대를 대상으로 도시가스 배관망을 구축한다.
사업규모는 △모화1·3리(공급관 7㎞) △남산동(본관 2.7㎞, 공급관 7.1㎞) △하동(본관 0.1㎞, 공급관 4.4㎞) 등 총 21.3㎞로 도시가스배관이 매설된다.
업무협약에 따라 시는 각종 인허가 지원과 공사 구간 내 파손·누설되는 상하수도 배관 보수를 담당한다.
서라벌도시가스㈜는 도시가스 배관망 구축사업 시공 총괄과 배관 및 정압기 관리를 담당한다.
두 기관은 이달 해당 읍면동 행정복지센터에서 주민설명회를 시작으로 3월부터 공사에 착수해 올 연말까지 사업을 마무리할 계획이다.
시는 이번 사업을 통해 주민들의 연료비 부담을 경감하고 에너지 분야 정주여건을 개선하는데 큰 도움이 될 것으로 기대한다.

한편 경주시와 서라벌도시가스㈜는 지난 2014년부터 도시가스 배관망 구축사업에 총 364억5000만원을 투입해 배관망 136.29㎞를 구축, 1만 2천여 세대에 도시가스를 보급해 현재 72%의 도시가스 보급률을 보이고 있다.
