시에 따르면 이번 사업은 오수관로 10.6㎞를 신설하고 172가구의 생활하수를 공공하수도로 연결하는 내용이다.
그간 사업대상지 일원은 동지역임에도 불구하고 공공하수도가 설치되지 않아 주민들이 악취와 정화조 청소 등 많은 불편을 겪어왔다.
이에 신속한 하수도 확대 보급에 주력한 결과 2024년 환경부 신규 국고보조사업에 선정돼 ‘충효처리분구 하수관로 정비사업’을 추진하고 있다.
시는 이달 안으로 실시설계를 마무리 하고, 올 상반기 중 착공해 2025년 12월 준공할 예정이다.
한편 경주시는 이번 하수관로 정비사업 부지 외 경주대 맞은 편 원룸 등 기존 취락지구의 하수처리구역 확대 편입을 위해 하수도정비기본계획(부분변경)을 추진하고 있다.
기본계획(부분변경)이 승인되면 이 사업은 범위 확대와 실공사비 반영에 따라 총 사업비가 140억 원 정도로 대폭 늘어날 예정이다.
주낙영 경주시장은 “사업이 완료되면 그간 공공하수관로가 없어 악취를 참으며 생활했던 주민들에게 쾌적하고 안전한 생활환경을 제공하게 될 것”이라며 “그간 탑동 상수원으로 유입되던 생활하수를 공공하수처리장에서 맑은 물로 처리해 형산강으로 다시 내 보내 보다 맑고 깨끗한 친환경 녹색도시 경주가 될 것으로 기대한다”고 말했다.

Gyeongju Mayor Joo Nak-yeong said, “Once the project is completed, it will provide a pleasant and safe living environment to residents who have endured bad smells due to the lack of public sewage pipes.” He added, “The domestic sewage that had been flowing into the Tap-dong water source will be transformed into clean water at the public sewage treatment plant.” “We expect that Gyeongju will become a cleaner, cleaner, eco-friendly green city by processing it and sending it back to the Hyeongsan River,” he said.
