한국인 최초의 라틴 그래미상 수상자인 아티스트 시타 최가 반가운 소식을 전해왔다. 나가이 쇼코(永井晶子)가 결성한 아방가르드 음악과 월드 뮤직을 추구하는 그룹 토칼라(Tokala)에서 활동하고 있는 소식과 우리의 전통 음악을 헤아린 공연 영상에서부터 일본의 국민가요 오 마쓰리 맘보(お祭りマンボ) 공연 영상을 전해왔다.
일본 가요에 담긴 흥취와 해학을 깊숙하게 헤아린 즉흥성이 뛰어난 현장의 신명과 감성을 고스란히 전하기 위하여 자막을 넣어 소개한다.
나가이 쇼코는 뉴욕에 거점을 두고 활동하는 클레즈머 리바이벌 그룹 아일 오브 클레즈보스(Isle of Klezbos)의 정규 아코디언 연주자이다. 일본 나고야 태생으로 야마하 음악 학교 졸업 후 야마하 전자 오르간 엘렉톤 강사로 학생들을 가르치면서 야마하 엘렉톤 페스티벌 세계 챔피언이 되었다.
이러한 바탕에서 피아노와 악기 저장 음원으로 다양한 음색을 빚어내는 신시사이저 악기와 아코디언 외에도 버튼을 사용하는 콘서티나 악기에도 뛰어난 건반의 예술가이다. 이후 미국으로 건너가 버클리 음대를 졸업한 그녀는 뛰어난 감성과 카리스마 넘치는 연주자와 작곡가로 아방가르드 아티스트로 널리 알려져 있다.

그룹 토칼라는 지난해 뉴욕 프로그레시브 챔버 뮤직 페스티벌에 초청되었으며 내년 한국과 유럽 공연을 추진 중인 것으로 알려졌다. 그룹 공연의 주요한 레퍼토리를 살펴보면 일본과 한국, 중국을 거쳐 서양으로 열린 실크로드를 헤아린 의식이 쉽게 살펴진다. 그중 우리의 전통 판소리 수궁가 한 대목을 재해석한 딧디루 디루 디루(Ddiddiroo Diroo Diroo)가 살펴진다.
이는 판소리를 대중음악으로 해석하는 얼터너티브 팝 밴드 이날치 밴드의 ‘범 내려온다’와 함께 수록된 소리와 춤을 중시한 약일레라(Ddiddiroo Diroo Diroo) 와 달리 이들은 깊은 감성이 흐르는 즉흥 연주로 해석하였다.
