박범계 의원은 13일 보도자료를 통해 이같이 밝히며, “곽 사령관은 2024. 12. 10. 국방위에 나오기 전 하루 전날인 12 월 9 일 검찰에 자수서를 제출한 사람이었고, 어떤 의원이든 집요하게 물으면 다 양심고백을 하려고 작정을 하고 나왔다”며, “제가 회유할 이유가 없었다”고 밝혔다.
박 의원은 “양심고백은 지난 12 월 10 일 오후 대통령과의 두번째 통화내용이 무엇이냐는 제 질문에 곽 사령관이 결심한 듯 자연스럽게 진술하면서 이루어졌고, 저는 노란 메모지에 이를 받아 적었다”며, “이 과정에 어떠한 회유나 유도 질문은 전혀 없었다”고 단언했다.
