(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 인천시 특별사법경찰이 지난 5월 23일부터 6월 5일까지 식육포장처리업체가 밀집해 있는 서구 가좌동과 부평구 십정동 일대를 중심으로 기획수사를 실시한 결과, 폐기물관리법을 위반한 7개 사업장을 적발했다고 밝혔다.
인천특사경에 따르면, 이번 기획수사는 관할 구청과 협력해 진행됐으며, 발생 폐기물의 배출 및 처리 허가(신고) 여부 및 수집.운반.처분 과정에서 불법행위에 대해 집중적으로 단속이 진행됐다.
단속 결과, 사업장 폐기물 배출자 미신고 4건, 동물성 생활폐기물 수집.운반자의 폐기물처리 미신고 3건 등 총 7건의 위반사항이 확인됐다.
주요 적발 사례로는 A 업체가 하루 평균 4,000kg에 달하는 동물성 잔재물을 배출하면서도 사업장 폐기물 배출자 신고를 하지 않은 사실이 드러났고, B 업체는 2010년부터 동물성 잔재물을 수집·운반하면서 폐기물 처리 신고를 하지 않은 것으로 밝혀졌다.
현행 폐기물관리법에 따르면, 동물성 잔재물과 같은 생활폐기물을 수집.운반하면서 폐기물 처리 신고를 하지 않을 경우 2년 이하의 징역 또는 2천만 원 이하의 벌금에 처해질 수 있다.
또한, 1일 평균 300kg 이상의 폐기물을 배출하는 자가 사업장 폐기물 배출자 신고를 하지 않은 경우에는 최대 1천만 원의 과태료가 부과된다.
인천시 특별사법경찰 관계자는 “이번 기획수사를 통해 다수의 불법행위가 확인된 만큼, 앞으로도 동물성 잔재 폐기물의 적법한 처리와 환경 보호를 위해 단속과 수사를 지속적으로 강화해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.
