에코프로는 11일 청주시청에서 열린 전달식을 통해 취약계층 출산 가정을 위한 ‘마더박스’와 산후조리비 지원금 총 4000만 원을 청주시에 기탁했다고 밝혔다. 이날 행사에는 이범석 청주시장, 최상운 에코프로 부사장, 이형진 초록우산어린이재단 충북지역본부장이 참석했다.
‘마더박스’는 아기 목욕 수건, 순면 손수건, 치발기, 이유식 용기, 젖병 세트, 온습도계 등 신생아와 산모에게 꼭 필요한 친환경 육아용품 10종으로 구성됐다. 에코프로는 올해부터 취약계층 산모 34가구에 대해 가구당 50만 원의 산후조리비도 함께 지원한다.
오는 25일에는 포항시에서도 초록우산어린이재단 경북지역본부와 함께 4000만 원 상당의 마더박스를 전달할 예정이다. 이 과정에서 에코프로 임직원들이 직접 마더박스를 포장하고, 지역 내 차상위·다문화 가정에 직접 전달할 계획이다.
에코프로는 2020년부터 마더박스 지원사업을 이어오고 있다. 지금까지 6년간 총 1154가구에 3억6500만 원 규모의 출산용품을 지원했으며, 지방 저출산 문제 해결을 위한 기업의 사회적 책임을 꾸준히 실천해왔다.
이동채 에코프로 창업주는 과거 임원회의에서 “저출산은 수도권보다 지방에서 더 심각한 문제로, 지역에서 사업을 영위하는 우리가 책임 있는 역할을 해야 한다”고 강조한 바 있다.
에코프로 관계자는 “저출산 문제는 기업과 사회가 함께 풀어야 하는 과제”라며 “오창과 포항 지역을 기반으로 한 에코프로의 나눔이 출산 가정에 작은 보탬이 되고, 지역 사회 저출산 해소에도 힘을 보탤 수 있기를 바란다”고 전했다.

EcoPro announced at a ceremony held at Cheongju City Hall on the 11th that it had donated a total of 40 million won to Cheongju City for "Mother Boxes" and postpartum care expenses for families with new mothers from vulnerable families. The "Mother Boxes" consist of 10 eco-friendly baby products essential for newborns and new mothers, including baby bath towels, 100% cotton handkerchiefs, teethers, baby food containers, bottle sets, and thermo-hygrometers. Starting this year, EcoPro will also provide 500,000 won per household for postpartum care expenses for 34 households with new mothers from vulnerable families.
On the 25th, Pohang City will also deliver 40 million won worth of Mother Boxes in collaboration with the Gyeongbuk Regional Headquarters of the ChildFund Korea. EcoPro founder Lee Dong-chae emphasized at a past executive meeting, "The low birth rate is a more serious problem in local areas than in the metropolitan area. As a local business, we must play a responsible role."
An EcoPro representative stated, "The low birth rate is a challenge that both companies and society must address together. We hope that EcoPro's sharing, based in the Ochang and Pohang regions, will provide some small help to families with newborns and contribute to tackling the low birth rate in the local community."
