【브레이크뉴스 울릉】전종환 기자=울릉군(군수 남한권)은 9일 남양어촌계 마을어장에 자체 생산한 어린 홍해삼 약 15만 마리를 방류했다고 밝혔다. 이는 지난주 태하·학포어촌계 마을어장에 홍해삼을 방류한 데 이어 하반기 수산종자 매입·방류사업의 일환으로 진행된 추가 조치다.
이번에 방류된 해삼은 울릉군 수산종자배양장에서 올해 초 울릉도 연안에서 채집한 자연산 홍해삼으로부터 채란·부화해 약 7개월간 성장한 개체다. 체중 1.0~7.0g의 건강한 종자로, 수산물 전염병 검사도 통과해 높은 생존율이 기대된다.
울릉군은 홍해삼 외에도 양식이 어려운 것으로 알려진 불볼락(메바리)에 대해 올해 전국 최초로 1만 마리 양식에 성공했다고 밝혔다. 군은 향후 생산량 확대를 위한 연구를 지속할 계획이다.
군은 한국수산자원공단과 협력해 동해안 해삼양식 육성사업, 수산종자 매입·방류 등 수산생물 증대 사업을 추진하고 있으며, 적지조사, 인공구조물 설치, 해중림 조성, 해양환경 개선 및 모니터링 등 서식지 조성사업도 함께 진행 중이다.
특히 울릉군은 지난해에 이어 현포어촌계 마을어장에 자연석을 투석하는 수산자원 서식공간 조성사업을 이어가고 있다. 군은 사전 영향조사를 통해 저질 구조와 퇴적환경 등을 분석하고 어촌계 의견을 반영해 설치 위치를 확정했다. 자연석은 해조류 부착과 성장 촉진을 통해 다양한 수산생물이 서식할 수 있는 환경을 조성할 것으로 기대된다.
남한권 울릉군수는 “어획 중심의 전통 어업에서 양식 중심의 미래형 어업으로 전환해 나가겠다”며 “지역 해역에 적합한 다양한 종자를 직접 생산·방류해 어업인의 안정적 소득 기반을 만들고 울릉도·독도의 어업 경쟁력을 강화하겠다”고 말했다.
또한 “자연석 투석, 인공구조물 설치, 바다숲 조성 등 수산자원 회복사업을 계획대로 추진해 해역 생태환경 개선과 어업 기반 강화를 위해 최선을 다하겠다”고 덧붙였다.

In addition to red sea cucumbers, Ulleung County also announced that it has successfully cultivated 10,000 rockfish (Mebari), a species known to be difficult to farm, for the first time in the country this year. The county plans to continue research to expand production.
The county is collaborating with the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency (KFRA) to promote sea cucumber farming along the East Coast and to increase aquatic life through the purchase and release of aquatic seeds. Notably, Ulleung County is continuing its project to create aquatic resource habitat by placing natural rocks in the Hyeonpo fishing village fishing grounds, following a previous year. The county conducted a preliminary impact assessment to analyze the bottom structure and sedimentary environment, and finalized the installation location after considering feedback from the fishing community. The rocks are expected to foster the attachment and growth of seaweed, creating an environment conducive to diverse aquatic life.
The Ulleung County Mayor, South Korea, stated, "We will transition from a traditional fishing industry focused on capture to a future-oriented fishery focused on aquaculture. We will directly produce and release a variety of seeds suited to the local waters, creating a stable income base for fishermen and strengthening the fishing competitiveness of Ulleungdo and Dokdo."
He added, “We will do our best to improve the marine ecological environment and strengthen the fishing industry by carrying out fishery resource restoration projects, such as natural rock throwing, installation of artificial structures, and creation of marine forests, as planned.”
