【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=POSTECH(포항공과대학교) 전자전기공학과 전요셉 교수가 국제전기전자공학회(IEEE) 통신분과인 IEEE Communications Society(ComSoc)가 수여하는 ‘2025 아시아-태평양 우수 젊은 연구자상(2025 IEEE ComSoc Asia-Pacific Outstanding Young Researcher Award)’ 수상자로 선정됐다.

이번 수상은 만 35세 미만의 아시아·태평양 지역 연구자 가운데 통신 분야에서 탁월한 연구 성과를 거둔 소수의 연구자에게만 수여되는 권위 있는 상으로, 전 교수는 작년과 올해 수상자 중 유일한 한국인으로 이름을 올리며 국내 통신 분야 연구의 국제적 위상을 높였다.
전 교수는 인공지능·머신러닝(AI/ML) 기반 차세대 무선통신 기술 분야에서의 학문적 우수성과 국제적 연구 기여도를 높이 평가받아 수상의 영예를 안았다. 그의 연구는 차세대 이동통신 환경에서 점차 복잡해지는 무선 채널과 물리 계층 설계를 인공지능 기술로 효과적으로 최적화하는 데 초점을 맞추고 있다.
특히 대규모 데이터 전송과 초저지연 통신을 위한 지능형 무선통신 모델을 제시하며, 향후 6G 통신과 지능형 네트워크 기술 발전의 핵심 기반이 될 것으로 기대를 모으고 있다.
전 교수는 “AI와 무선통신의 융합 연구는 향후 통신 기술 패러다임을 변화시키는 핵심 분야”라며 “실제 사회와 산업에 기여할 수 있는 연구로 이어질 수 있도록 더욱 정진하겠다”고 소감을 밝혔다.
한편, 시상식은 지난 8일 대만 타이베이에서 열린 통신 분야 최고 권위의 국제 학술대회인 IEEE 글로벌 통신 컨퍼런스(GLOBECOM)에서 진행됐다.

POSTECH Professor Joseph Jeon Receives IEEE Communications Society's "Asia-Pacific Outstanding Young Researcher Award"
Professor Joseph Jeon of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at POSTECH has been selected as the recipient of the "2025 IEEE ComSoc Asia-Pacific Outstanding Young Researcher Award," presented by the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc), a communications society within the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
This prestigious award is presented to a select few researchers under the age of 35 in the Asia-Pacific region who have achieved outstanding research achievements in the field of communications. Professor Jeon is the only Korean recipient of this award both last year and this year, elevating the international profile of Korean communications research.
Professor Jeon received this award in recognition of his academic excellence and international research contributions in the field of next-generation wireless communication technologies based on artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML). His research focuses on effectively optimizing the increasingly complex wireless channel and physical layer design in next-generation mobile communications environments using AI technology.
In particular, he proposes an intelligent wireless communication model for large-scale data transmission and ultra-low latency communications, and is expected to serve as a key foundation for the future development of 6G communications and intelligent network technologies.
Professor Jeon stated, "The convergence of AI and wireless communications is a key area that will transform the future communications technology paradigm. I will continue to dedicate myself to research that can contribute to real-world society and industry."
Meanwhile, the awards ceremony took place on the 8th at the IEEE Global Communications Conference (GLOBECOM), the most prestigious international academic conference in the communications field, held in Taipei, Taiwan.
