대전시는 일본 삿포로시와 자매결연 15주년을 맞아 2월 3일부터 5일까지 2박 3일간 현지 방문을 통해 실질적인 협력 강화에 나선다.
첫날인 3일에는 홋카이도청 구 본청사를 방문해 역사건축물 보존과 도시재생 사례를 살펴보고, 대전의 원도심 활성화와 공공자산 활용 정책에 적용 가능한 시사점을 모색한다.
이어 삿포로 시청에서 아키모토 가쓰히로 시장과 면담을 갖고, 축제·문화·관광부터 인적 교류, 청년·교육·도시 정책까지 협력 범위를 넓히는 방안을 논의할 계획이다.
둘째 날인 4일은 삿포로 눈축제 개막식 참여와 축제장 시찰을 통해 국제 행사 운영 경험을 공유한다. 이날 한국 대표로 참석한 대전 조각가 3명을 격려하며 대전의 문화예술 역량을 해외에 알리는 기회로 삼는다.

같은 날 오후에는 ‘대전-삿포로 비즈니스 상담회’가 열려 양 도시 기업 간 비즈니스 매칭과 경제교류가 본격화된다. 이번 상담회에는 대전에서 19개 기업과 삿포로에서 약 30개 기업이 참여해 협력 가능성을 모색한다.
마지막으로 자매결연 15주년을 기념하는 리셉션에서는 양 도시 시장이 모래시계에 모래를 넣는 퍼포먼스를 진행하며 지난 15년간의 우호 협력 역사를 되새기고 향후 미래지향적인 교류 확대를 다짐한다.
