주 부의장은 수도권과 지방의 법인세율 차이를 키우는 방안을 언급했다. 그는 "예를 들어 수도권 법인세를 1% 올리고, 지방 기업에는 4% 낮추면 총 5%포인트의 차이가 생긴다"며, 이렇게 하면 기업들이 지방으로 이전할 가능성이 높아질 것이라 내다봤다. 또 일정 기간 동안 지방에서 기업을 운영하면 상속세를 면제하는 인센티브도 하나의 방법으로 제시했다. 그는 "이런 방식이면 수도권의 과도한 인구 집중, 집값 문제, 저출산, 지방 소멸까지 여러 문제를 동시에 완화할 수 있다"고 강조했다.
이날 간담회에는 박기현 과총 대구지부장을 비롯해 여러 과학기술계 인사들이 자리했다. 참석자들은 지역의 과학기술 발전, AI 인재 양성, 청년 정착을 위한 인센티브, 통합 국제공항 건설 같은 현안들을 논의했다. 과학기술단체는 AI와 로봇 등 첨단 분야 육성의 필요성도 강조했다.
주 부의장은 대구·경북 행정 통합의 필요성도 언급했다. 그는 "통합이 이뤄지면 재정 운영이 더 효율적이고, 사업 추진에도 힘이 실릴 것"이라며 "만약 통합이 실패하면 경북 일부 시·군은 20년 안에 소멸 가능성도 있다"고 우려했다.
