멸종위기종인 Ⅰ급 붉은점모시나비가 이달 30일 방사된다.
28일 금강환경청에 따르면 충북 영동군 유원대학교 내에서 멸종위기 야생생물 I급인 붉은점모시나비 80마리를 방사한다고 밝혔다.
붉은점모시나비는 국내에는 강원도 삼척, 경북 의성에서만 서식하는 것으로 알려져 왔으나 ‘ 환경부의 생태조사 과정에서 충북 영동군에서 서식하고 있는 것이 확인돼 금강청에서 관리해 왔다.
영동지역은 붉은점모시나비 애벌레 먹이인 기린초가 다량으로 자라고 있어 최고 서식환경을 갖추고 있음에도 매년 30~70마리 정도만 조사됐다.
이에 따라 금강청은 지난’2020년 말부터 ‘영동지역 붉은점모시나비 살리기 사업을 추진해왔다.
협약에 따라 ‘21년부터 23년까지 3년간 사업을 추진하는데, 작년에 80마리를 방사하였고, 이어 올해는 2년 차로 삼척지역에서 채집하여 증식한 붉은점모시나비를 영동지역에 방사하여 복원력을 높이기 위하여 행사를 추진하게 되었다고 밝혔다.
올 해는 인근 영동초등학교 학생 25명 및 주민들이 방사 행사에 직접 참여해 자연환경 보전의식을 높이고, 지역 주도의 서식지 보호 활동에도 기여한다.
금강환경청 정종선 청장은 붉은점모시나비는 관상가치가 높아 남획의 대상이 되고 있어 불법 채집에 대한 인근지역 주민들의 관심이 필요하다며 “아름다운 붉은점모시나비가 영동지역의 상징물이 될 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
