(브레이크뉴스인천 문광수 기자) 인천시가 3일 2023년 새해 첫 이달의 해양유물로 선정된 ‘토템폴(Totem Pole)’을 소개했다고 밝혔다.
인천시에 따르면, 토템폴은 지난 1994년 7월 인천항과 밴쿠버항의 자매결연 기념물로 인천항 갑문에 설치돼 지금까지 그 자리를 지키고 있는 조형물로 우리나라의 장승과 비슷한 모습이며 북미 서부 연안 인디언들의 작품으로 인간과 자연의 평안과 안녕 그리고 소통의 의미를 담고 있어, 자매결연을 기념해 밴쿠버항에서 인천항에 기증했다.
이 토템폴은 인천항만의 운영주체가 변경된 2005년부터 인천항만공사에서 소장･관리해 오던 것을 지난해 12월 국립인천해양박물관 건립사업에 도움이 되기를 바란다며 다시 해양수산부로 기증됐다.
토템폴은 보존처리 과정을 거친 후 2024년 개관 예정인 국립인천해양박물관 야외전시장에 설치돼 관람객을 맞을 예정이다.
인천시와 해양수산부는 2024년 개관 예정인 국립인천해양박물관에 전시될 해양유물 확보를 위해 인천시민과 전 국민을 대상으로 유물기증 홍보를 추진하고 있다.
어시장 상인․경매사, 어민, 선원, 항만 노동자 등 바다를 터전으로 살아온 이들의 삶을 전시에 담을 예정이며 이를 위해 각종 어업도구, 선원들의 항해도구 등 다양한 해양자료를 기증받고 있으며 기증과 관련한 문의는 해양수산부(해양정책과 담당자)를 통해 할 수 있다.
