[브레이크뉴스=양영석 기자] 의령군이 3년마다 개최되는 '의령큰줄땡기기'행사에 사용될 줄 제작에 들어갔다고 밝혔다.
코로나19로 인해 이번에 제작하는 큰 줄은 6년만에 만들어진다.
이번 큰줄땡기기 행사에 소요되는 볏짚은 600여동으로 작은 줄(3가배)은 길이 100m, 지름 10㎝로 154개, 벗 줄(9가배)은 길이 80m, 지름 15㎝로 56개 규모로 제작된다.
지난 21일부터 줄 제작에 들어간 용덕면을 비롯한 관내 대부분의 마을에서는 주민들이 합심해 볏짚을 나르고, 줄을 만드느라 연일 바쁜 손놀림으로 분주하게 움직이고 있다.
읍면별 줄 제작은 다음달 말일까지 계속되며, 4월 초에 각 마을에서 만든 줄을 한 곳으로 모아 약 2주간 큰 줄을 만들게 된다.
한 곳에 모인 줄은 암수 줄을 엮고, 큰 고 만들기, 겻줄 달기, 꼬리줄 만들기 순으로 작업을 진행해 세계에서 제일 큰 줄을 만들어 내게 된다.
의령큰줄은 2005년 4월 22일 길이 251m, 둘레 5~6m, 무게 54.5t으로 세계에서 제일 큰 줄로 기네스북에 등재되었고, 2015년 12월 2일 유네스코 인류 무형문화유산에도 등재됐다.
의령 큰줄땡기기는 망우당 곽재우 장군이 전국 최초로 의병을 일으켰던 날을 기념해 개최되는 홍의장군축제의 부대행사로 3년마다 한 번씩 선보인다.
올해 열리는 홍의장군 축제는 오는 4월 20일부터 23일까지 개최 될 예정이다.
