알비치와 스트로치 가문의 음모에 5년 추방형으로 감형받은 메디치가의 대 코시모 데 메디치는 북부 파도바를 거쳐 베네치아에 추방령이 내려진 동생 로렌조 데 메디치와 합류하였다.
당시 모든 가족이 떠났지만, 유일하게 부인 콘테시나 바르디(1390~1473)가 피렌체를 지켰다. 피렌체에 상당한 영향력이 있었던 친정 바르디 가문이 존재하는 사실에 명분을 두고 기실은 긴밀한 소통을 위한 것이었다.
대 코시모는 피렌체의 대표적인 3대 상업 가문이었던 바르디 가문의 콘테시나 바르디(1390~1473)와 1416년 결혼하였다. 결혼 당시 바르디 가문은 은행업과 상업 기반은 몰락하였지만, 정치적 영향력이 있었다. 코시모 아버지 메디치 은행 설립자 조반니가 대 코시모의 결혼을 바르디가와 맺었던 이유도 엄밀하게 바르디가의 정치적 영향력과 메디치가의 재정적 지원의 결합이었다.

필자가 오랫동안 파악한 내용에 의하면 바르디 가문의 아버지가 판노치에치 가문의 에밀라 판노치에치(1360~1394)와 결혼하여 대 코시모의 부인 콘테시나 바르디(1390~1473)를 낳은 지 4년 만에 세상을 떠났다. 당시 세상 중심에 있었던 대 코시모 부인의 안타까운 이야기를 누구도 드러내지 않으려 했을 것이다.
덧붙여 13세기 대표적인 이탈리아 시인 단테(1265~1321)의 사랑하는 여인 베아트리체(1264~1290)가 바로 바르디 가문과 결혼하였다. 베아트리체에게 바치는 헌시 작품인 신곡에서부터 단테 문학의 영감과 감성의 근원이었던 여인 베아트리체가 바르디 가문의 은행가 시몬 드 바르디(생년 미상)와 결혼하여 24세의 나이로 요절하였다. (근간에 베아트리체 아버지의 유언장에서부터 새로운 문헌들이 보고되고 있지만, 많은 의문점이 있다)
