몽골어를 모르지만, 시중에 떠도는 내몽고(内蒙古) 가수 다이칭 타나(黛青塔娜)가 부른 고요한 하늘(寂静的天空)의 가사가 와닿지 않았다. 원곡을 부른 가수가 있었다.
민족의 웅대한 역사를 기록한 고구려 평강공주와 결혼한 바보 온달의 나라로 연구되고 있는 투바 공화국 4인조 민속 밴드 후운-후르-투 & 아티스트 세인코 남실락이 투바 민요에 바탕을 둔 전통 후미 가창 기법의 노래 다글라림-나의 산(Daglarym-My Mountains)이었다.
투바공화국 작가 알렉산드로비치 다르제이(1944~2016)의 작사에 음악가 로스티슬라프 켄덴빌(1922~1993)이 1986년 작곡하였다. 저음과 고음을 동시에 부르는 특성적인 배음 공명의 가창 기법 후미(Hoomi) 음악이다. 가수의 발성에서 하나 이상의 서로 다른 음을 함께 듣게 된다.
세인코 남실락(1957~)은 티베트 불교에서 달라이 라마로 대표되는 고승의 존칭을 이르는 부단한 수행 라마와 샤머니즘 연구에 천착한 가수로 저음과 고음을 동시에 부르는 몽골족 특유의 가창 기법 후미를 바탕으로 단숨에 7옥타브를 오가는 울림의 여신이다. 가수의 몸짓과 소리가 덩어리진 전위적 공연은 세계에 알려져 있다.
더욱더 헤아리면 층층의 이야기가 화석처럼 깎아내린 역사의 벽 앞에 서게 된다. 카스피해 북서쪽과 볼가강 하류 서쪽에 유럽으로 분류되는 러시아 남서쪽 칼미크 공화국이라는 나라가 있다. 유럽에서 유일한 불교국가이다. 티베트 불교의 오랜 역사를 거머쥔 몽골족 칼미크 공화국과 질곡의 역사를 삼킨 투바 공화국의 역사에는 우리 고대사와 겹쳐 드는 그림자가 있다. artwww@naver.com
