인천시에 따르면, 참가종목은 일반부와 청소년부로 생업·의례·연희·놀이·춤·음악 등 한국 전통민속으로 인천의 지역적 특색 및 전통성이 있는 작품이면 된다.
이번 재공모에는 공모심사 시 신청단체에게 작품설명 및 시연 기회를 제공하며 기존 출전(신청) 작품의 재신청이 가능하도록 신청자격을 확대한다.
대표작품으로 선정되면 일반부, 청소년부를 합쳐 최대 5천만 원이 지원될 예정이다.
한편, 한국민속예술제는 1958년부터 매년 10월 중순 4일간 전국 광역 시도를 순회하며 17개 시도 및 이북 5도의 대표 민속예술이 한자리에 모여서 60여년 간 경연을 펼쳐온 가장 오래된 민속축제다.
