중견 한국화가 김양수 작가 초대 개인전이 7월 1일부터 31일까지 한 달간 서울 종로구 팔판길에 소재한 갤러리 1에서 열린다. 예향의 섬 전남 진도에서 태어난 작가는 동국대학교 미술학부와 성신여대 대학원을 졸업하고 중국 중앙미술학원에서 회화를 전공하였다.
서울에서 활동하여온 작가는 지난 2018년 고향 진도에 화실 (적염산방-寂拈山房)을 세워 귀향하여 작업에 전념하고 있다.
자연과 생명에 깃든 정신성을 순결한 서정으로 매만져온 화가는 고매한 의식을 작품에 담아온 작가로 널리 알려져 있다. 많은 사랑을 받던 작가가 홀연히 고향으로 귀향하여 작업 활동에 전념하고 있는 사실에서 작가의 남다른 의식과 면모를 살피게 된다.

귀향 5년 만에 ‘마음·치유’라는 부제를 앞세운 ‘숨 그리고 쉼’이라는 전시로 열리는 작가의 작품은 많은 것을 헤아리고 일깨우게 한다. 이는 살아서 호흡하는 ‘숨’과 편안한 휴식을 이르는 ‘쉼’을 통하여 세상의 통증을 치유로 건져 올린 의식이 흥건한 까닭이다.
‘숨 그리고 쉼’이라는 제목의 시리즈로 40여 점이 전시되는 작가의 작품은 동양과 서양의 종교와 철학이 품은 사유의 정신성을 뛰어넘은 자연이라는 훼손될 수 없는 영원한 의식을 담고 있다.
자연의 경관을 그려낸 작품에 담긴 실체를 세세하게 들여다보면 정작 모든 것이 비어있다. 하늘과 땅, 나무와 풀, 산야와 개울, 일출과 석양, 꽃잎과 풀잎을 그려낸 실체는 구상과 추상을 넘나드는 극히 절제된 형태의 정신성의 미학을 담고 있다.

김양수 작가의 작품은 마음속에서 생성된 시각적 표현인 심상(心象)과 마음속에 존재하는 생각을 이르는 심상(心想)이 겹겹으로 그려진 매우 특징적이며 절묘한 작품이다. 살아 숨 쉬는 사유의 숨결로 세상의 통증을 치유하려는 의식이 흥건하다.
오랜 역사의 동양과 서양 미술사에서 자연은 중심적인 소재로 시대를 관통한 화가들에 의하여 다양한 이야기로 그려졌다. 그러나 자연의 마음을 그려낸 화가는 없었다.
