의왕문화원이 ‘2023 의왕마을기록’ 심포지엄을 지난 12월 6일 의왕문화원 강당에서 개최했다.
‘의왕마을지 작업의 의미와 미래’를 주제로 개최된 이날 심포지엄에서는 2021년부터 의왕시민기록가로 활동한 김일환 의왕시민기록가의 ‘초평 새우대마을지 작업 내력’, 강정원 서울대 인류학과 교수의 ‘마을기록의 의미와 시민의 역할’, 정형호 경기민속학회 고문의‘마을지의 의미와 향후 방향성 제안’을 주제로 한 발표가 진행됐다.
이어 2021년 ‘새우대 사진展’과 2022년 활동조사보고서 ‘초평동이야기’에 참여한 김은지, 신은영, 손은희 시민기록가가 2부 주제발표를 맡아 진행했다. 또 김장환 용인학연구소 연구위원, 홍원의 안성시청 박물관운영팀장, 유선영 이천학연구소 전문연구원이 각 발표에 대한 토론을 맡았다.
의왕문화원 이사이자 아랫대우대 주민인 정영현 이사와 고중분 초평1동 노인회장도 함께 참여해 초평동 새우대마을지 구술 제보자로서 참여 소감을 발표하는 자리를 가졌다.
심포지엄에는 김성제 의왕시장, 김학기 의왕시의회 의장, 이소영 국회의원과 각 사회단체장, 시민 등 300여 명이 참석했다.
의왕문화원은 2021년부터 의왕시민기록가를 양성해 도시개발로 사라져가는 초평동 새우대마을을 사진으로 기록한 ‘기억을 기록하다, 새우대 사진展’을, 2022년에는 새우대마을 주민 생애사를 기록한 2022 활동조사보고서 ‘초평동이야기’를 발간한 바 있다.
올해는 초평동 새우대마을 주민의 일상과 주거생활 문화, 세시풍속, 혼례 풍습 등 민속 분야를 기록한 ‘2023 의왕 초평동 새우대마을지’를 발간했다.
이동수 의왕문화원장은 “2021년부터 시작한 기록사업을 되돌아보고 미래를 이야기하는 뜻깊은 자리였다”며, “이번 기록물들은 의왕시의 귀중한 기록문화자산이 될 것이며, 앞으로도 사라져가는 마을을 기록하는 것을 멈추지 않겠다”고 말했다.
