이날 착공식에는 이강덕 포항시장, 오장석 캠코 공공개발본부 총괄 상임이사, 김병욱 국회의원, 김일만 포항시의회 부의장, 나주영 포항시체육회장, 시·도의원과 지역민 등 200여 명이 참여한 가운데 다원복합센터의 착공을 축하했다.
오는 2025년 5월 준공을 목표로 하는 다원복합센터는 국무조정실 생활 SOC 복합화 사업으로 추진되며, 지역민들이 편하게 이용할 수 있도록 주민 생활과 밀접한 다양한 용도의 생활 친화형 건축물을 연 면적 7,765㎡, 지하 1층, 지상 3층 규모로 8레인 50m 수영장, 청소년문화의집, 다함께돌봄센터 등으로 구성된 생활 SOC 복합시설을 건립한다.
다원복합센터는 한국자산관리공사 캠코와 사업추진을 위한 위·수탁 계약을 체결했으며, 지난 2021년 현상 설계 공모, 주민설명회 등 행정절차를 진행했다.
특히 주민설명회를 통해 다양한 의견을 반영해 지역 실정에 맞게 사업이 추진되는 만큼 주민들의 관심이 뜨거운 사업이다.
